was a civil servant for 8 years. now working part-time.



i mid-30s even worse. 2006 was the last time i studied, b4 entering NS

for SUSS PT, if u are above mid-20s age, u belong to the 5% or 10% minority age group in your class.

if u single and no family / financial commitment, can give further studies a shot. dont be like me liddat, wait until so long. during my poly days, no such thing as bank / tuition fees loan. so i thought same for uni. how wrong i was. really a pity as both of my parents became overage for bank guarantor.

money ($$) can always earn back, as long as u are able-bodied and below 50yo. but time n education waits for no one. u try, did your best, but failed. ok, at least your life no regrets. or u prefer to think when u hit your 40s/50s "what if i had taken a degree earlier? would my career path/prospect be different?"

i attended 1 of the non-degree modules in SUSS n it was an eye-opener for me. i sat in between 2 uncles (they rly look old like those mid-40s to maybe even 50s kind). den i realised they are PHD holder bcos both of them wrote Dr on their notes

So I assume you’re married and with commitment?

I still single, working in Civil service (3yrs soon), not much commitment yet..

same as every uni, u need study ur own .... even lecturer spoon feed also no use in long run, cause there’s just too many thing to teach in span of 3 hrs each lesson...

only near exam than revision will be almost everyday.... those TMA or ECA or GBA need explore more than just supplied notes usually...

e textbook or physical one is given free .... is enuff

Revision wise, it really depends on what you want. Personally, I study almost every day whether it's near to the exams or not. I have one weekday night and half a day on both sat and sun where I don't study. All other times I would either be reading up before the next week's class, or working on assignments. If I have spare time after these, I would do up my notes for the modules.

The textbooks would be provided, but study guide and powerpoint slides would also be provided. Some people would say that study guide and slides are sufficient for the exams. But same thing....this depends on what you wish to achieve...If you are doing the degree wanting to do well, I would say that reading the textbook is a must. There are people who mention how many pages are in the textbook and how impossible it is to memorise everything. But do take note that this is tertiary education - you shouldn't be memorising everything you read. There is memory work required for the exams but knowing how to explain in your own words and how to apply the concepts are very important.

TMA, ECA and GBA are the types of assignments you have
TMA - tutor marked assignments
ECA - end of course assessment (this is applicable for modules without exams)
GBA - group based assignments

Wah. I can relate Orinyori because I'm doing that too and also aiming for good grades. Study 6 hours everyday, i.e. read textbook, make notes. Damn shag. Expected to read (time-consuming), understand (no problem) and remember 600 page textbook (information overload) and apply in final Exam. Then still have TMA and GBA to do, and must do swee swee somemore. Time management is super important.

No. I left my job to focus on school. I'm in BHRM and it's said to be 1 of the tougher programs with consistently high failure rates. So I don't think it's wise to juggle FT work with studies when I can choose not to.

Depends on your course. BHRM is a fairly rigorous course that's hard to graduate, with tough mods to pass like HRM263 and HRM373 (last sem 40-50% failure rate)

just graduated already. for the above two modules its true.. i was from 2015 till 2018 ,saw the changes and stuff... Having said that,i think recently they did some changes to 373 and 263.. it was mentioned that it is due to admin issues which was why the exam was so tough and i was told by my frens (this sem) that the new teacher that took over said that exams questions will change already, will be based on what we were taught.. That time there was one post on suss confession on me posts because they said i spreading rumours lol but little did they know whatever i said is from the lecturers one.. especially the one regarding hrm373..

The exam failure rate is so high and its not supposed to be like that (said by the lecturer). I think what he mean is that every module supposed to have certain amount of people who pass, fail and score very good but how much % of failure is still considered normal which they could continue assessing the module like that. Too many people pass or NOBODY FAIL is not right.

On the other hand, We even have a elective FYP (dont even need to take one) where u can choose as ur 10cu elective.. called hr project hrm381.. This module was taught by a teacher since the FIRST DAY this module was introduced (in 2010 i think).. Technically, this module is a 0% failure rate for everyone who submitted (dont include withdrawal halfway). This is a research project u have to start from scratch, total 7500 words.. Even if exceed 10% under the word count, u wont be penalized by him. Got people gave up halfway till go submit a powerpoint instead, still pass, some submitted 4500 words also pass.. IIRC, the worst grade to date for the module was a C or C+. nobody get d or d+ before even for those who passed.

For us students,cfm happy but if think objectively, no failure rate also means something wrong.. Which was why i think 2 sems ago the teacher got told by the school and external examiner that he needs to be more stringent.. Thus, this module will now also change teacher and i think become tougher and will finally have people failing already.
