Nice to see this thread
May I ask, for freestyle str3ke, do I keep kicking my leg continuously? Or is there a rhythm to follow for every one arm movement? i dk ?
In Freestyle stroke, you have to leg continuously. For short sprint, usually continuous furious kick such as 50M, 100M or even 200M. (It could be a 6-8 kicks per arm strokes)
For longer event such as 400M, 800M or 1500M, lesser kicking is required. (It could be 2-6 kick per arm strokes)
My approach is as follows:
The leg should follow which hand to move. Theoretically, during the start of the push phase of the right hand, the right leg should start the kick such that when the hand finishes it push phase (hand completely at the side), it end the kicking phase at the same time, along with the rotation of the hip and shoulder of that Same side. (Here I am talking about 1 - 3 kicks per arm strokes)
There are many school of taught and conflicting issue about arm and leg movement which neither is right or wrong.
Watch the youtube, experience it yourself, sing a rhythm to yourself like say 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3 if you are doing a 3 kick per arm stroke.
I like this drills a lot as it helps me to feel the rhythm better. I like to kick 1 and 3 hard... 2 is a soft kick. so I ended up with Hard kick, soft kick, hard kick and repeat.
Hope this help.
