did both but doesn't work..:(does anti-fog spray works?

use anti-frogman grenade to clear the fog in your goggles. lol

on a serious note, ur goggles is most prob doesn't have anti-fogging thingy. buy those goggles which doesn't allow fog to occur. it cost more exp, from $34.90 to $99.90. mine doesn't have anti-fogging thingy, thus cost only $14.90

My question is regarding Fartlek Interval Swimming
http://effectivewaterfitness.com/fartlek-swimming-easy-interval-training/

It is said this is flexible and can tailor make for each individual level of swimming proficiency or fitness level so with that this is my planned program. First a bit about me

#1 Only know Breastroke for distance. Freestyle CMI. Backstroke ok but get bored of it. Butterfly totally dunno

#2 Before this only go pool finish say 1km (50m x 20 laps) of continuous swimming then call it a day.

Based on the suggested Fartlek program IMHO i think the warm up / cool down too long liao while the "all out" phase (25m) seems a bit short so

Warm up

4 x 50m normal pace

Main

10 set (alternate)
50 m normal pace
50 m all out pace or close
60 sec rest after every set

Warm Down

4 x 50m normal pace

Total distance swam : 1400m

My question is : as a beginner is 60 sec rest after each set too long? Is my interpretation of Fartlek interval training correct and would see gains over normal continuous lap swimming?

Hi I am trying to swim freestyle but always have problem with my breathing. Not sure is it because I never breathe out enough or what. Sometimes I feel like swallowing water or breathing in or out together when out of water.

Can I ask, when you breathe out under water, do you breathe out totally through the nose only, or you breathe out through nose and mouth, or breathe out through nose then last part breathe out through mouth to let go of all air?

Hi, When you are exhaling (blowing out), you have to use Mouth. Some swimmers prefer to use both the Nose and Mouth to blow out is also fine. Continous bubbling until your head is out of the water and Inhale. Follow your breathing and stroke... they work in pair. :)

From the way you describe, it could be you are pausing the bubbles and causing breathing interruption which is not correct. Fine tune it. :)

I have just finish a website www.eazyswim.com for your reference. Some stroke details are there for you to see.

Those who are keen to take part in the Singapore Swimming Proficiency Awards (SSPA) feel free to let me know. Now is the enrolment period until 20th June. The actual test is on 4th July at Toa Payoh Swimming Complex. So take up this challenge if you love challenge. :)

In Freestyle stroke, you have to leg continuously. For short sprint, usually continuous furious kick such as 50M, 100M or even 200M. (It could be a 6-8 kicks per arm strokes)

For longer event such as 400M, 800M or 1500M, lesser kicking is required. (It could be 2-6 kick per arm strokes)

My approach is as follows:
The leg should follow which hand to move. Theoretically, during the start of the push phase of the right hand, the right leg should start the kick such that when the hand finishes it push phase (hand completely at the side), it end the kicking phase at the same time, along with the rotation of the hip and shoulder of that Same side. (Here I am talking about 1 - 3 kicks per arm strokes)

There are many school of taught and conflicting issue about arm and leg movement which neither is right or wrong.

Watch the youtube, experience it yourself, sing a rhythm to yourself like say 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3 if you are doing a 3 kick per arm stroke.
I like this drills a lot as it helps me to feel the rhythm better. I like to kick 1 and 3 hard... 2 is a soft kick. so I ended up with Hard kick, soft kick, hard kick and repeat.

Hope this help.

In butterfly, when executing a one complete arm cycle of a stroke, how many butterfly kick/s are there? 1,2,3 or 4?

Are they using the same kick or different?

Swimming involves afew important components namely:
1) Stroke Mechanic
2) Understanding of our Body Energy System
3) Mobility/ Flexibility of our movement in executing the stroke
4) Proper Training ( Good balance between Aerobic and Anaerobic exercises, Work/Rest Ratio)

Lets wait till the haze is gone, and try out the above mentioned. Have a good day.

Hi, Thanks. Now I learn to breathe more continuously underwater and not hold breath. It is better.

I got another question which I find is 1 of the greatest mysteries in swimming. Why is it in breast stroke some people can glide so long with 1 stroke, while others like me move very little?

It seems you need to come up and then go underwater to glide long, but I don't seem to be able to go deep underwater to glide far. How to improve my technique? How to place the arm and how best to kick etc. It's so complicated.

they could be better at streamlining and/or propulsion than others... body composition also affects buoyancy and position in the water - which has a direct effect on drag

you could get a coach to correct your technique...

there are also articles and videos online... but you may end up confused because there are many variations in technique and you'd still need to find out what works for you by trial and error

anyway, where do you normally swim?
