the price was $55, so $49.50 after 10% off... and yes, the polarized layer is at the front of the lens. next thing is to use it on a sunny day and see how well it works =:p

the swans seven is $59.

Swans have another model FO-XiP going for $39. The nose piece looks like those with 3 different sizes. I will most probably get either swans or tyr, but I didn't manage to see them in store yet, only online stores.

I will skip arena's due to incomplete coverage of the polarized lens, it defeats the purpose of getting a polarized lens in my point of view. Tried looking for aquasphere but all the stores I went to do not carry the polarized version.

good find! :)

there's another model with polarized lens and mirror:
http://swans.com.sg/product/swans-polarized-mirror-outdoor-swimming-goggle-fo-x1pm/

but looking at the pictures, both models have their polarized filters located on the front... the sides are not covered -- just as in the arena goggles.

anyway i just tested the arena goggles. the polarization works.... but the sun wasn't low enough to catch the sides so i didn't get any glare from the unprotected portion

during morning/evening or doing backstroke, it might be different though.

That's true. I will look for them in store to see the lens.

Which shop did you go for the arena goggles?

Above show the sequence of a breaststroke kicking action. Have fun learning. Please take good care of each other and educate others on water safety especially younger children.

As the school holiday approaches... you might want to consider the following measure for your awareness.

Water safety tips

1) No child should swim without a strong swimmer present.

2) When there are children around, pools must be fenced in with a safety gate, and a good quality SABS approved pool net or cover is mandatory and well worth the expense. Just because you have a pool net however you should still never allow young children to play unaccompanied around the pool as drowning can still happen.

3) Ban running around the pool even if it makes you unpopular. Nasty accidents can happen on slippery poolsides. You may also want to insist that everyone wear non-slip shoes near the pool. This is especially important for elderly or frail family members.
If you young children have not yet learned to swim they should always enter the pool or other body of water with a good quality swim aid such as arm bands.

4) Apart from whisky and water, alcohol and water don't mix well – no one who has been drinking should swim – every year people drown in our oceans after drinking too much alcohol.

5) No-one should swim within 20 minutes of eating.

6) Be aware that floatation toys such as boats and lilos can quickly float away from the shore at beaches and dams.

7) Anyone on a boat who cannot swim needs to wear a life jacket in case they get into trouble while on the water.

8) Be sure to have sufficient shade and sunscreen when spending time in the sun. Avoid full sun during the hours between 10 and 4 each day.

9) Always have a first aid kit to treat bluebottle or jellyfish stings at the beach, and scrapes and falls on the rocks.

10) Save the number of the emergency numbers to your cellphone and have them displayed next to your landline phone before the holidays for any emergency. Remember that out of town guests won’t know the local emergency numbers.

11) Some of South Africa’s beaches have shark warning flags and systems in place. Always familiarise yourself with any shark warning procedures.

12) Don’t swim at any beach where no lifesavers are present.
Don’t dive into any water where you cannot clearly see the bottom or where you are not personally sure of the water depth.

Nowadays I always go to the training pool to swim, never go competition pool. It's really damn cold, I heard the colder temperature is for swimmer to swim faster?

personally, i find that it's a little uncomfortable to swim continuously in water that's about 30 deg C and above... like in public pools without shelter and the sun heats up the water..... but the reason for controlling the water temperature for competitions is to control the resistance of the water.
