I actually like swimming when the wafer is cold. It's because you can go fast and put in an effort then the cold water can cool you down.

When swimming at public pool, it's quite hot because of the sheer number of people in the pool at the same time...

have you tried the competition pool at the new tampines swimming complex? it's COLD =:p

a rough estimate would be 27 degrees (according to my watch, after allowing the reading to stabilize) :s22:

Nowadays I always go to the training pool to swim, never go competition pool. It's really damn cold, I heard the colder temperature is for swimmer to swim faster?

I personally like colder pools and my endurance is better in cold water , didn't really do a scientific research on this but that is how I felt.

thanks.... :) i'm just asking out of curiosity though :o

I checked last week, the life guard says 27 to 28 degrees for training pool.

I checked FINA, it is

For swimming in both standard competition and the Olympics, FINA mandates a water temperature of between 25 to 28 degrees C, or between 77 and 82 degrees F. For water polo in both standard competition and the Olympics, FINA mandates 26 degrees C, or 79 degrees F, plus or minus one degree.

I checked last week, the life guard says 27 to 28 degrees for training pool.

i searched and found an article with this:

During swimming in the normal water temperature 26° ± 1°C, the functions of the human body respond regularly and the performance of swimmers tends to be improved.

https://www.kaenz.com/water-temperature-swimming/

which means 26°C is considered "ideal" and not "cold".... and that also implies the OCBC training pool is warmer than ideal =:p

i don't know of any such forum..... :o

usually, people who want to take group lessons would approach a swim school/coach, and wait till there are enough people in a group for lessons to start. however, there's no guarantee that these lessons can be arranged to suit the timing of all the students and coach.

personally, i have asked a coach before and he said that most of his adult students go for individual coaching lessons because of the reason i mentioned earlier.

the adult groups that i've seen appear to be made up of relatives or friends, i.e. they approached the school/coach together.

could be due to swimming pools getting more crowded ever since ActiveSG was launched, or that you're swimming during peak hours nowadays..... :o

i don't always catch a cold after a swim but i think i'm getting colds more frequently when i swim more often

But Singapore public swimming pool do not allow paddle or fins to be used in their pools right

for ActiveSG public pools, training aids that can potentially cause injuries to others are not allowed to be used in public swimming areas. you would need to book a lane if you wanted to use those things, or else be in an organized swim training session taking place in reserved lanes.

paddles, fins/flippers, snorkels, scuba/snorkeling masks made from hard materials are generally not allowed, but neoprene gloves are allowed.

Started our first day of swim camp at Clementi today and was greeted by a very bad weather. Kids have make their way for the swim and looking forward. Nevertheless, we proceed to do the land drills, aquatic related games and theory. As the pool was closed, we did the following:
Planking- 20 sec
Half squat - 20 counts
Prone Flutter kicking- 20 sec
Streamline body & Tip toe 20 counts
Burpee X 10
4 Dimensional Shoulder Extension exercises which affect the 4 swim strokes and their explanation
Flutter kick explanation- Long straight kick, toe inward, knee and ankle relaxed.
Good swimming strokes techniques and good habit
Sequence of a breast stroke arm action
Advantage of slow motion vs fast motion
Timing and rhythm.
Finally the Self sensor skill practise.

We wrapped up the day leaving all kids happy and tired. I will update our second day of swim camp update soon.

Day 1 activities video at aqzog.com and Have a good day ahead.
