actually.. when during high tide.. ECP water has this "clensing" effect.. however..it is during the low-tide.. that.. "waste from the land flash seawards"..so..don't swim during low-tide.. and low-tide..too much dirt and sand..even water-babies..happily..can swim..just simply stand and dip/sit onto the sand..make sure they are "scrubbed and detoxed"..

yes.. ships berthed at ECP.. gives that "foul smell" of marine patrol..but..changi beach nearer to the SAF Jetty will be the stronger ones..

actually open water swim.. needs to have.."swim with sighting" technique..will need a different swim goggles..wider angled one..to see more..and that means..swimming body must be strengthened on both sides..swim left and right with balance..and expect to swim strongly..against rain/sun, storm sometimes, waves, tides, and yes... rubbish..seaweeds..and of course..jellyfish which sting..and some water ticks which bite..

open water swim is not for all... so..just share in this thread..besides boring lap swimming..vs..open ended swim... unilateral breathing vs..bilateral breathing..is talking about.. unlimted swim..if you geared for the challenge with safety.. since open water had no boundary, but with the unforeseen "dangers" mostly natural..so needs..strength (vs waves and tides) and endurance (what if there are riptides during high-low tide inter-session, and, of course ECP wave-breakers are always like an internal undercurrent wave in motion..splashing towards and breaking apart, great natural force of massive water body..so need bilateral breathing to "sight" danger of swimming not too close to the wave-breaker)..experience..

yap..hope this is more of "infotainment" on Swimming anyone???..open water style..for those who are regularly swimming in pools.. yes..always 1st choice in any safe swimming..and..practice...strokes for good health and fun with those having good leisure time of friendship and workout..

just to add info on how to access to tides info..TIDES & WEATHER.. well..can guess when will be my next open water swimming session...and..warning..no FULL MOON please.. for they hearsay only.. "bomoh" coconuts pop up more as tides get higher and higher...with more and more fishermen around and fishing line entanglement will surely be there..rather stay safe at pool and do "butt"aFLY and IM...how many laps.. depends on motivation..wait..IM is 1lap 200/400 or 4lap/8lap...

ok..unlimited swimming with MyActiveSWIM™ Adult Unlimited loh..practice for next open water..and..better swim more more..before 7th month hungry ghost festival starting 27/7 (Sunday) then NO SWIM..against "spiritual force"..that one..bomoh friends all agreed.. :)

Rule of swimming:
1) relaxing body
2) Slow inhaling and exhaling
3) Slow movement of arm and leg
4) Feel for water as much as possible.
5) Sculling for 1 min before or end of training.

Enjoy and have fun. Feel free to visit my new website at Swimming Lessons for more swimming details. :)

Stroke technique is critical to the way u want your swim speed to be. Have a good training plan and record down those activity u do. Such as u may want to record down the number of stroke u took in a 50 or 100 meter swim against the time taken. Have fun swimming.

Action Vs Reaction in Swimming.

The harder you push your hand in the water, the harder the water will resist. Try out this experiment the next time you are swimming.

Read more at Swimming Lessons

Have a good day.

Anyone know whether you can rent kickboards/pull buoys at the public swimming complexes?

Most of the public pool do not offer rental of kickboards or pull buoys. But you can request a loan from the lifeguard. They could have some spare. Good luck.

Do you know that our shoulder can extend forward during the arm entry in frontcrawl? That give an added distance to your stroke length. Give it a thought. :)

For public pools, they are in the midst of migration from nroc to sgcoach program. Last intake for nroc swim was last quarter 2014 iirc.

Private ones are Austswim ir STA.

Hope I helped you.

2) Swimming Teacher Association (Can only teach Condo Pool)
3) Singapore Swimming Association (Can Teach Both Condo and Public Pool)

Challenging question: how many kick/s are they in one complete cycle of a butterfly stroke?
