Challenging question: how many kick/s are they in one complete cycle of a butterfly stroke?

The answer is : Two kick for a complete cycle of a butterfly stroke. In most competitive strokes, butterfly is seen to be one of the most graceful stroke of all.

Below, I highlight a few general points common to swimming.
1) Streamline body
2) Aquatic Feel of water for hands, body and legs (Sensory skill)
3) Slow and Fast actions in water
4) Good synchronization/coordinations (Arm, leg, breathing movement) or simply called it.. .Good timing. Your mind need to think of this continuous tempo feel like a ticking clock and your swim sequence just follow this tempo.

Swimming once a week is not enough. I would recommend you do it at least twice or more per week.

For the butterfly, there are 2 kicks as mentioned. The soft kick and the hard kick. The butterfly arm is quite similar to the free-style Pull-push action.
During the arm pushing phase action, that is where you initiated the hard kick on your leg. When the hard kick action ended, your arm would be at the side. Your whole body streamline and slightly tlited for your head to breathe while your hand still at the side. Head enter water after catching breathe and arm recover before you initiated the soft kick and repeat. The breathing action of the fly has to be quick and exhaustive.

BackStroke
In order to swim straight on your backstroke, your head must have minimum or no movement when everything else move. Our head is like a direction indicator. If you tilt your head slightly left, your whole body will move left and vice versa. So that is why we need to keep our head very very still with most of other things keep moving.

Sometimes even if your head keep still, you still sway to left or right, then it could be that your arm movement for left or right side is not equal. Try to give both side of arm equal pull and you will be ok.

Hope this help. Have a good weekend.

In swimming, there are 3 kind of buoyancy namely
1) Positive Buoyancy Body - Float easily and often above the neutral line. Eg woman, baby, lots of body fats person, old people

2) Netural buoyancy Body -Does not float or sink, stay on water neutral line. Eg normal person, not so fat not so lean, abit of body fats around, not so chubby etc.

3) Negative Buoyancy Body -always sinking below the neutral line. Eg, triathete, muscular mass persons, heavy bone density person, etc.

Swimming is very much a sports that is suitable for all body type be it 1,2,3. So do not lose heart even if you can sink. There is a term called Counter Balancing to overcome such problem. Have a good swim ahead.

Breast Stroke if executed properly should not give you any knee problems.

To begin your free style, you need to have learn your flutter kicking and have a good aquatic feel of your arm/hand and good trunk rotation. YOu also need to learn to have a good streamline posture thru the entire swim strokes and minimize body movement especially when you roll to the side to breathe.

Flutterkick using your core leg muscle (Thigh muscles) to move your whole leg. Bear in mind to keep your knee and ankle totally relax as you kick.

Set realistic goal and plan your work out properly. Maybe do a 4x 25m flutter kicking with board for a start. Streamline body is very much encourage during the flutter kick exercise. Good luck in your work out.

So tell us more about how you feel after your training on this matter.:s12:

MosT probably due to your inner lens coating quality. Do remember to soak the googles into the pool for a while before wearing to swim. QUOTE=nachoskia;92592036]thanks yinyin..I will try that out..:)anyone knows if the fogging is due to the poor fitting (too tight?)[/QUOTE]

Hi I am trying to swim freestyle but always have problem with my breathing. Not sure is it because I never breathe out enough or what. Sometimes I feel like swallowing water or breathing in or out together when out of water.

Can I ask, when you breathe out under water, do you breathe out totally through the nose only, or you breathe out through nose and mouth, or breathe out through nose then last part breathe out through mouth to let go of all air?

i think is becos you are panicking lah. for me, i breathe out totally through my mouth. don't think too much on "oh, which is the correct method arh?" and you would be fine, especially if you are causal swimmer. accidents happen if you are not concentrating on the main activity you are doing
