Maybe I'm wrong but I think 舊排 or 舊時 is part of their dialect.
Like Hongkies will normally use 食 but I have heard some Grandmas in Singapore use 吃 "Hag" occasionally depending on situation...
Your explanation is not wrong but 吔is always use over 食 in some cases, most notably; 吔蕉/屎
