anyone know what does "gau3 bai2" means in cantonese? used to hear people use these two words but don’t know what chinese character they are and what they mean. not sure if is gau bai or gaau baai also. from context i think is something like “last time” or “used to”

Think 舊排 is what you mean( hongkies dun use that) . 有排ish not got queue, meaning ‘for a long time.’ < example; 有排等( need to wait some time).

Whereas 依排 ish recently.

My Cantonese 咁上下only. :D

A lot of our forefathers came from 五邑...
Maybe I'm wrong but I think 舊排 or 舊時 is part of their dialect.
Like Hongkies will normally use 食 but I have heard some Grandmas in Singapore use 吃 "Hak" occasionally depending on situation...
