I’m talking about mine ..probably apply more to boys than girls
Ever since entered puberty, always one word answer, very little appreciation or joy for anything…hardly comes out of room… default mode is disinterest and disrespect.
Years of this can really wear one down. I am beginning to understand why Angmohs like their kids to move out after turning 18.
Does it ever get better?

It will definitely get better,
especially after they are married,
with kids and/or dogs
then they will sweet talk to you
in taking care of their kids,
or dogs,
while they go for a holiday.

Is normal. Kids usually have no wisdom nor appreciation, unless you get lucky.

It only gets better after 30 when they wise up. Before that, all they think about is themselves and partying and playing game.

No surefix way, as circumstances always differ. But can explore going family outings to Sentosa or something.

When he is in BMT, give him full support like fetch him home, wash his clothes, buy him food on weekends when he book out. Most kids become more open and appreciative to their families during BMT if you fully support them during that period.

TS probably will need to get him out of his room before he turns full on Hikikomori .
Possible to find common interest or topic to engage him? Or plan weekly outings with him to the parks, beach, hiking, etc?

teenagers are like that
Maybe it’s nature’s intention for them to behave in this way to irritate their parents so much that parents boot them out and they can become independent. Or else forever won’t grow up

Teenagers nowadays think old people are irrelevant….

Need to ask them to go out and survive themselves, maybe will come back more appreciative
