if you just want the learning aspect and get paid to learn, can check out this:
https://www.ntuclearninghub.com/sgunitedskills/

just recently launched though so not sure how easy it is to apply for. u also get paid 1.2k a month for learning. but i would guess most won't want . as 5.5k is still one of the biggest draws of this program.dont lie to yourself :o

I am talking more about being able to get paid a "normal salary range" whilst studying. Most, if not all, jobs expect you to do the job right away. Not study what we are supposed to do on the job.

We all still have a family to feed. If I do not have any responsibilities I would love that 1.2k. It is still a steal to be able to earn any kind of income while studying. Unfortunately, my choices right now is a standard job or TFIP. Whichever comes first I guess.

Dreading the tech interviews from normal jobs. But it's just parts and parcel of a software developer. :slant:

hi msfindmoney,

welcome to this forum. i believe you already have years of experience in software development? what is your tech stack and domain expertise?

understand from your post that you applied to cloud computing (cc) and full stack (fs), did you have some technical experience with these 2 or did you actually read up and study to prepare for the interviews for these 2 tracks?

I mean the FIs participating in this. Note that so far the interviews that I have gotten are from Full Stack and Cloud Computing (which might be slightly more tech-heavy).

Hi Ms.FindingMoney, may I ask which are the FIs that had interviewed you already?

Personally, I think your experience in SW dev will certainly make u a very good candidate for them to pick. I wish u all the best!

hi msfindmoney,

My tech stack is all over the place, but unfortunately the most recent is in VB.net webforms. Which is not very popular (and very much declining).

I did not have experience in both. Went through the online courses the TFIP provided and self-studying at the moment (even after the interviews).

If you have technical experience, just apply to the track which is closest to your existing experience? For me I use AWS in my previous role, so I only applied for cloud computing. Even for my case with some understanding on cloud computing, they will tend to ask you harder questions to gauge your capability.

I think my only transferable skill is that I can code (which makes Full Stack a good choice). Besides that, I don't have any other specific skills that are transferable. Lol! Watching a lot of videos to gain basic knowledge. But there is only so much you can learn from videos.

Standard Chartered (CC & FS), Dymon (FS), and OCBC (CC).

I do not think that it is hard to learn a new tech stack. That is provided that either you spent time on it or the hiring manager is open towards you picking up new tech stack. For me i started off with javascript and picked up python on the job in order to write automation scripts.

As for self-studying, I have been doing it all the while, even taking examinations for certifications and to solidify my knowledge. As for self taught coding, just update your github profile from time to time?

For me my interview is only from OCBC and UOB, both CC track.

I agree to pick up a new tech stack is not hard. It's just syntax. My issue have always been algorithmic questions. Since I am prepping for tech interviews I am burying my head into leetcode and it sucks (for me, I am sure many other thrive in leetcode).

I don't mind leetcode, but I am not good at doing it "live" over the phone, unless I've seen the question before.

Leetcode has almost become a meme at this point. If you go to teamblind or reddit cscareerquestions, many people recommend that grinding leetcode as a first step to joining a tech giant.

hi guys, check this out

https://www.coursera.org/specializations/data-structures-algorithms?

This specialization is a mix of theory and practice: you will learn algorithmic techniques for solving various computational problems and will implement about 100 algorithmic coding problems in a programming language of your choice. No other online course in Algorithms even comes close to offering you a wealth of programming challenges that you may face at your next job interview. To prepare you, we invested over 3000 hours into designing our challenges as an alternative to multiple choice questions that you usually find in MOOCs.

Once I am done with my analytics course, I will enroll in data structure and algorithms, discrete mathematics, linear algebra, machine learning, software engineering courses.

anyone wanna join me? can form study group and do it together. haha.

Not taking DA route for me. But if you forming a community group I am in.
hi jgyy, ok noted, i do notice that there are many facebook tech groups around. for example, say you are into cloud computing, you can join various cloud groups on FB. you will see many relevant newsfeed on the cloud stack.

i m looking to do a masters in cs (parttime) in the foreseeable future. trying to learn as much as possible on cs related courses before i 'dare' to even apply for one (itchy backside finding trouble for myself). haha.

having said that, i hope to see my future self doing research or working in a startup as i m really quite 'sick' of the corporate world. those who work long enough would know what i mean (mid-life crisis). thus, it is also an irony for me to apply to TFIP (hope to get in and also hope not to get in ... kinda mixed feeling inside).

anyway, hope to hear good news from everyone. cheers.

Hey Doncha

What was discussed in the interview?

They are looking to understand more about your aspirations and current job scope.

They will deep dive into your resume as well. AFAIK the interview by Goldman is over already. They schedule 3-4 days for candidates who passed their HireVue.

It sounds like the interviews are rounding up for the first few batches, good luck everyone and hope IBF quickly get back to us, whether it is accepted or not.

I just emailed IBF, they are hoping to start informing the applicants by batch within the next 2 weeks once the FI share with them the outcome.

Good luck everybody.

hopefully those who got rejected by their first 2 choices can get another chance with the remaining FIs.. but then it would mean an even longer wait. :(

i heard from the hr is that after the final interview, the applicant is grouped into one of the 3 categories: the confirmed group, the standby group and the rejected group.

does that mean the applicants in the rejected group are then push out to the other FI who offer the same track recently?

then what about the standby group where the applicants are the next best alternative should the confirmed group applicant decided to take up another offer? if confirmed group all stay put, then standby group also push out to other FIs? haha

abit messy ah. should use data structures like queue, stack to manage the sorting out. haha.

A lot of these workflows are not being shared to us. A lot of guessing games and speculations on our part. The 3 category have already been shared with us since the webinars.

Just hope that all of us who are active here will be within the confirm group. Standby group are in dangerous position to me as they are just hoping that confirm groups will reject one of the offers. I hope IBF makes the arrangement such that those on standby will have their applications passed to the rest of the FI.

As for data structures, please adopt a queue FIFO method for candidate selection. It makes utter no sense to adopt stack LIFO as it is completely unfair to candidates who applied early, did technical test early and interview early to have their results out later than the rest.
among the 3 groups, i think i should be in the standby group or reject group because there are too many outstanding applicants with strong tech background and tech experience and on my part i think i screwed up some programming questions. haha.

if not successful this time, i will happily move on to my next plan.

nevertheless, wishing everyone here best of luck and outcome. cheers.

Erm I still have some doubts. If there are so many "outstanding" applicants with background and relevant experience, they will either be holding on their role or applied for a much better role. Not saying that there is no outstanding candidates, just that to me there is not a lot of them.

For me my next plans is to aim for sgunited skills if I am not successful for this TFIP. On a footnote, I personally feel that you are pretty suitable to take up the role based on your messages in this thread.

eh i though u graduating from the Nus post grad dip in IT or something?
should be able to leverage on the sch's career website?
