I dare not have a very concentrated position in equities because I realy don't know sh.t abt the company and don't have any inside sources .. So I have to resign to having not so good returns.

Yup, he has a big position in tesla. But his biggest holding is FB. I watch him sometimes for entertainment purposes. He seems like the typical american retail investor. Hahaha!

i sold just b4 earnings. my theory is musk always comes out with some bullshyt to pump the stock up, but he cant BS hard figures.

but i do wrongly, i should have kept bynd long instead of selling it to short tsla. i tot usually go down faster then go up.... but now the observation is like upside down..

oh well 1 more trading day left for tsla to drop 42 dollars

He is clueless, doesn't have insider info, doesn't know the markets that tsla is selling to and as what dividends mentioned, the typical retail investor. Damn funny to see a nervous wreck.

During the same period S&P500 rallied by almost 4.5% (excluding dividend).

So its been just a slow walk on the Treadmill over the last 18 months for IWDA ..

Yes, I agree ... I'm not denying the advantages of DCA for investors / regular savers.

Just that if the fund underlying yields 2% pa dividend then for a 18 month period you'd expect the dividend portion to be around 3% and since the dividends are reinvested it should have reflected in the current price (i.e. the current price should have been approx. 4.5 to 5% instead of just 2% higher.) This is considering the fact that S&P500 has given 4.5% (excluding dividend) and 6 to 7% (including dividend) during this period and since US market represents around 60% of the fund holding.

I think part of the reason for this under performance could be because of adverse currency effects of the non US holdings in the fund. For eg. Non US stocks rallied while currency depreciated against USD, thereby negatively affecting the returns when denominated in USD.

May be someone can throw some light on this

Actually, 18 months is a too short period to make a meaningful comparison if you are doing a long term investment.

It's better to look at the 5, 10 or 15 years performance instead.

I was watching the karate kid 2010 movie on Netflix and what amazed me, the set up of the story is about a black family in Detroit leave for China due to the slump in US automobile industry.

In those days I remember there was a saying: Shanghai, Dubai, Mumbai or Bye Bye. Which implied you had to move from the west to these EMs if you want to survive.

It is funny how things have changed 180 degrees. Now apparently US has the best job market, best economy and EMs are screwed.
