US:China trade ratio is 5:1. There isn't a big enough based for China to retaliate in term of tarif. If China choose not to do anything, it will make US looks like a big bully. Trump is hard up a deal. US farmers need to sell their soil bean.

No matter how crazy this guy is, at least he has done something that no other presidents have done before.

He managed to meet the rocket man in 2 summits.

He dares to challenge China with regards to IP protection and forced technology transfer.

I think he will win the 2nd term again.

Convincing two egotistical leaders to go to two summits which are are basically two glorified photo ops is not difficult, especially for Trump :s22:. There has been no follow up plans for denuclearisation after the summits. NK is also back to their old ways, firing missiles at their neighbours and continuing their weapons program. If Trump actually convinces NK to give up their nukes and they actually follow through then I'll give him credit.

Coming down hard on China regarding IP protection is the right move but with the elections next year, can he actually keep the tariffs going even if it ends up hurting the US economy and his conflict of interest business dealings in China?

I doubt he will win another term, he has too much baggage and democrats already made significant gains in the recent mid-term elections.

He won because he didnt play the politician games, he made them play his game. He is a damn good negotiator. China is doomed to lose this trade war from the start, Trumpet just needs to be careful to continue giving Winnie face, dont anyhow send military planes play play. Oh wait he just did.

Heck Im not even remotely interested in our own SG elections.

The Korea denuclearization will need more negotiations and time. But the summits were like stepping stones and a start. But you can actually see that NK is less hostile compared to the past. That rocket man knows once day he likes to open up the economy and prosper.

I see the tariffs is more of a short term pain but long term gain to the US. He has to make some sacrifices in the short term. As supply chains re-locate out of China, import prices fall and economy may pick up in the mid to longer term.
