Got a bicycle and I'd be cycling all around the island by myself during this covid lockdown, I'm thinking of getting a drone to bring it with me during my cycling, for selfies, areal stills/video.

Looking at Mivic Air 2 or the new mini, or even better the DJI FPV...

Whilst my search into drone flight in Singapore, I found out (via https://flywhere.sg/ ) that there is soooo many no fly zone in SG, especially on the northen, east and west of the island. does that mean I can't have my drone follow/video me while I ride in Neo Tee, S.Buloh, Woodland, Punggoh etc?...

Does anyone drone and cycle at the same time, what's ur advise?

umm,.. what i think...

1) don't expect too much from the drones. the only drone that could follow your cycling properly now is Skydio 2 (go youtube and search for "skydio 2"). i have a Mavic 2 Zoom (this is already having most obstacle sensors for all the mavic now) but i never bother to try it's "follow me".

2) I do not know if CAAS allows you to fly an autonomous drone in "follow me" mode for a long distance like few km. they never say can or cannot, or may be they will allow you to play with few hundred meters for video recording fun only?

3) i do cycle around the whole island also, i'm using an osmo pocket mounted onto backpack straps and filming when cycling (of course myself not captured inside the video).

if you found a good way of filming yourself during cycling, please do let me know...

Hi all,

I am very new to this drone hobby and would like to seek your advice.

I am living in the fringes of a restricted area and there is a nice small open field in front of my block, which is not covered by the restricted area.

I would be practicing to fly my drone in altitude range of 10~20 metres (or up to level 2~3 of a HDB block) and probably 10~20 meters away from me. I just want to have a feel on how to fly the drone and familiarize myself with the controller screen and buttons.

I already registered my drone with CAAS and affixed the sticker.

Given the many restrictions in Singapore, can I practice flying my drones in my HDB area?

i would say better stay away from HDB blocks. First, people could complain you are peeping into their homes or their bathrooms, and there are kids around who might just run to the drones.

better look for an empty plot further away from HDB blocks, make sure not under restricted zones, make sure not inside NPB website no-fly listing, and check that place is without "no-fly" signs when you are there.

drone could crash easily during first few flights, when you are not familiar with the toy. So fly carefully and safety first. Avoid all the fancy automated flights during first few testing.

Have fun!....

Did anyone see the newly launched DJI Air 2S that was released yesterday night? Just wondering if anyone tested or bought it already. The features looks so good and user-friendly for a beginner like me. If any of you have any personal reviews, do let me know please as I am seriously considering to purchase,

They said the CAAS sticker is tamper proof, anyone tried removing it? I’m passing on my other drone and I’m not sure if the sticker will leave anything nasty on the drone.

Hey, I dropped by the DJI store at Funan last weekend and the product looked really good. U should check out its features and consider again!

I saw someone posting a video filmed using their new Air 2S last week and its really tempting me to buy.

Hi, anyone here gotten UA Pilot License?

I'm trying to sign up for the ITE course but not sure which is the right one? Some is like only 7 hours and some is like 28 hours. What's the difference? I don't need theory lesson so I guess probably the 7 hours one is enough?

Hi guys.
Need recommendation for a drone-flying course. Criteria are:
SkillsFuture claimable
Can obtain license (or is this not important?)

I have googled but there are so many ads claiming they are the best...

I am a beginner and I will fly drones mainly below 1kg, for commercial use such as landscape surveys.

Thanks!

Bros while we go into lockdown #2 I was thinking of doing a DIY project and building my own quadcopter to learn autonomous mapping.

Ideally would like to be able to replicate the time-stamped section from this Ted Talk by a Upenn Robotics prof, or at least a more basic version:

I have ok experience in Python and C so I think I'll be ok with the programming.

Can a 師傅 please hook me up with a list of good parts for flight controllers/rotors/sensors etc?

I'm pretty sure doing aeronautical engineering to design the frame from scratch is well beyond my abilities, so that I'm happy to buy premade or at least as a no-solder kit.

drones flight controller open-source source code here...
https://betaflight.com/https://ardupilot.org/(inav/cleanflight/butterflight are from betaflight)

for betaflight hardware, may be you can buy any eachine, diatone, betafpv, happymodel, geprc racer drones (~S$100-200). all these racer drones are on betaflight and you should be able to modify the flight controller software on the product directly (STM32F4xx, STM32F7xx). smaller than 3" propeller size or <120mm quadcopter are usually less than 250g.
You can get the racer drones from shopee or banggood. betaflight has GPS support now but i think not many upper level apps like mapping etc. Betaflight is mainly for racing purpose.

for ardupilot likely you have to buy the flight controller and build your own drone. Likely you will end up with >250g and need CAAS registration. ardupilot should give you all the flight controller, mapping and application s/w you are looking for.

for playing with drones only (no source code hor, only playing), suggesting to get a 249g Hubsan Zino Mini. It has 4K video recording, Front/Back/bottom obstacle sensors, 40min flight time and <250g. Price of drone plus 2 batteries as RMB3499 (~S$728) on taobao.

for any things else i do not know liow... ;)

FYI on those interested in skydio products.
Hope soon. Realised that the range is 3.5km as compared to 12km by dji.
But for drone owners, have u ever flew a drone over 8km?

Am also interested.
saw there’s the MF Media academy or Drone Flying academy or the ITE course. anyone attended that can advise ?
