Testament is easily better than Metallica, even at their prime (but then again there are a load of Thrash bands better than Metallica). I suggest checking out The New Order and The Legacy.

I still feel that the only Maiden compilation worth buying is the Best of the Beast 2CD set, though I did break down and buy Ed Hunter many years ago :)

I think the 2 CD Essential Maiden is a good buy cos it has the nice songs from X and XI. So no need to buy hese 2 albums liao. =:p But hardcore Maiden fans will buy them anyway.

This is what I listen to:

Power:
Avantasia (opera metal supergroup)
Control Denied (with Death's members in it)
Dark Moor
Divinefire
Firewind
Iced Earth (with progressive, thrash, speed metal influences)
Lost Horizon
Myrath (power melodic progressive influences, VERY similar to Symphony X)
Outworld
Royal Hunt
Sonata Arctica
Symphony X (prog/power)

Progressive (favourite genre so far):
Ayreon
Circus Maximus
Devin Townsend/The DT Band
Dominici (ex-Dream Theater vocalist! his voice has changed quite abit too)
Dream Theater (!!!)
Fates Warning
Green Carnation
John Petrucci
Liquid Tension/Trio Experiment (basically Dream Theater without vocals/Trio = without Petrucci)
Opeth
Pain of Salvation
Porcupine Tree (I know not metal, but close enough Prog Rock, they just kick ass)
Riverside
Threshold
X Japan

Death:
Continuo Renacer (jazzy progressive death instrumentals)
Disarmonia Mundi (with Soilwork members IIRC)
Sculptured
Wintersun (progressive/melodic death influences, can't wait for their newest album "Time"!!)

Metalcore:
Darkest Hour

Heavy:
Dio
Iron Maiden

Thrash:
Metallica
Megadeth

Misc:
Ensiferum (good black metal)
Mammatus (excellent doom)
Electric Wizard (another good doom/stoner)
maudlin of the Well (avant-garde) now called: Kayo Dot
Subterranean Masquerade
Turisas
Yndi Halda (some good post-rock)
Muse (yeah!)
The Cure (really great rock)
Led Zeppelin (do I need to say more?)
An Endless Sporadic (unsigned Progressive/Rock/Metal band, featured on Guitar Heroes III)

*Bolded ones are the better bands I like =p

Basically I think metal is quality music. Not to put down other genres, but I just can't get of the "metal zone", it's like once you're in it you're addicted to it like drugs(in the good way)! Post more people, I hope my list helps you guys to expand your music horizons!

Your list has a disturbing lack of Black Metal in it......... I recommend you to get the following albums now:

Immortal: At the Heart of Winter, Sons of Northern Darkness
Emperor: In the Nightside Eclipse
Diabolical Masquerade: Death's Design
Moonsorrow: Kivenkantaja
Keep of Kalessin: Through Times Of War, Kolossus
Burzum: Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Limbonic Art: In Abhorrence Dementia

And I recommend you to get Disillusion: Back to Times of Splendor. Every Prog-metal fan must have it.

Wow scytheavatar thanks for the recommendations man, I'm not really into black metal but some black metal are still tolerable to me. I've heard Agalloch is good, is it true?

If you love Opeth then chances are you'll love Agalloch. Provided you don't mind the fact that their songs are more repetitve. Do check out The Mantle.

BTW Ensiferum is not Black Metal, it's melodeath like Wintersun. If you like these 2 bands you must check out Amon Amarth - With Oden on Our Side.

And if you don't like Black Metal you still should check out Immortal, cause they're really awesome.

Also, your power metal list doesn't have Blind Guardian and Kamelot, the 2 most important power metal bands out there.

Edguy is awesome. Hellfire club is a must have. Hibria and Helloween are great too. Demons & Wizards is a hit and miss; I prefer their Blind Guardian and Iced Earth stuff more.

Just got back from a long period of break, school project work etc. hahaz

anyway I acquired a bunch of stuff lately.

You were right man Edguy IS pretty damn awesome. Hellfire club is a must have for power metal fans. Loved it especially for The Piper Never Dies, it's an epic 10/10 song.

Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor is indeed a must-have for Progressive Metal lovers, loved it much!

To melodic death/power metal fans, Raintime is the band for you as they combine clean and harsh vox into their songs and make it more interesting to listen to.
