Ambivalence, as spellsinger said, name the location.

Kazuki666, having a workshop running a class is our long term plan, in fact in our pipeline, we have an entire 5 year plans in making leathercrafting culture into singapore as a mainstream activity.... but it will takes a lot of effort when most of the locals are loom with upscale branding and hectic schedule....

From looking for a workshop (somewhere near town) to organising leather camp, i too is from the white collar sector and seek some stress release activity other then boozing nightly or partying silly..... doing leather is actually a passion, and requires quite a lot of investment.

There're ample of tools and materials you will need to buy, that why the message i send is to find out how many of them are ready to pick up this skill as hobby.

If I'm not wrong, we hope to start the workshop by end of the year... and we need at least 50 register to start with.....

hi scasi...is this workshop going ahead? i would like to join to learn as a hobby.
pls let me know.
would be great if the timing suits working people.
thanks

Wow! It is good to know people are keen to take up leather crafting as a hobby. A full knowledge of how leather works, their history, types of leathers, usage and such...
Not only does it cultivate a patient and creative mind, with all these knowledge, it also helps in choosing leathers product like handbag, sofa, duffel bag etc for own use.

The workshop plan is in the pipeline for our future directions. Maybe, for those interested can send us an email and we will consolidate, once ready we will inform you guys in priority :)

@Dj-jax: Actually, I was going to ask the same question on the shopping centre, LOL!

James is Right, is still in progress, and definitely it will be run in after hour.

With the hectic schedule me and James have, we are seriously multi tasking a lot of events for the year end.

As he mention, send email to inquiry@obbigoodlabel.com title Leather Workshop 2011. We will consolidate and advice accordingly.

Hi everyone.

New to leatherworks.

May i know if there's any place in SG that we can "tailor" our own leather products like wallets, bags? I want to make my own leather messenger but don't know how to go about it. I got my design though.

Something techincal to ask as well . From what I see, most of the leather products are natural colors (in brown mainly) and over time, it'll tan and change its color to a different tone.

Then what about those leather products we see in the market ? Those with colors like white, blue etc. Are they all synthetic ?

My idea was to make a white messenger bag secured by some red leather strips. Is it possible to "dye" genuine leather into other colors?

What are the pros and cons ?

Reason being I want to make something durable, hence wanted genuine leather but want to know the possibility of customising details like colors.

Thanks

You can print out the pictures or do a rough sketch and bring it over to 310 woodland to have it done. He will discuss with you the materials, threading , hardware selection etc with you. And also have the dimensions you want ready in mind.

Best would be to have some ideas on these things before going there and you can make it easier for you guys to design the bag.

As for colored leather, from my experience, color will tend to turn dull after long term usage. And if you are going for white leather, be prepared for dirt stains / obvious pen stains. :s13:

@enquiries about my workplace, it's Singapore Shopping Centre. The one beside Park Mall!

Thanks

like most will recommend, 310 Woodland is your best bet for custom leathercraft.
You can drop by, have a chat with Master Soh, tell him wat you want and he will advise accordingly.

Yes, you can dye leather into the colour you want. 2 ways, DIY dye or professionally dye.
Those natural leathers that you seen popular now are UNDYED, NATURAL leather. We also call it tooling leather because it is the only leather suitable for carving due to their supple properties. It is also the only type of leather you can dye by DIY.
Coloured leathers are usually soft because they are professionally dye in colours at the tanneries before supplying to retails.
There are no definite pros and cons in general, each type of leather has got their own characteristic. It depends on what you want from it.

Undyed, natural leathers are tough and supple, they come in various thickness. Durability is definite and great aging properties.
Coloured leathers are soft and easy to use (See pics above, Scasi's post of pics).
Attractive in colours but have different aging properties.
