Thanks!

It's strange though, because I don't have that Selector Notification on my set. :(

Ahh, then it must be a feature of custom rom. I always change my keyboard using this feature. Other stock rom users can share their method instead. :o

Got the 4.2.2 update this morning but only when i was connected via WIFI. strange thing to enforce on people...at least give a choice would be better.

My guess is they don't want to risk having the download file corrupted if the 3G connection isn't stable, especially when one's moving around as it might cause problems for the device if said file is installed.

Though I think we should expect that the device checks for the integrity of the download before installation, Google probably set that in place as a precautionary measure.

For example, my previous phone, a BB, prompted me for an update which I downloaded over 3G so that I can receive email on-the-fly. When it was applied the whole operating system crashed and the phone could not boot properly. When asked, the service personnel said the update was probably corrupt.

OTA update via 3G should be possible. They just need to check file integrity before updating. I thought last time no such requirement. Play store can download >50 MB apps. Why not?

Where is the selector notification? I don't see under language and inputs. When using the default keyboard I can click on the circular icon to change keyboards, but when using other keyboards that icon is not available.
You mean you don't see an option to change keyboard in your notification bar when u are in a text field? Pull it down when u are in a text field.

To N4 owners here, any overheating issue on Nexus 4? :s11:
I'm seeing this issue on xda forum..
I'm pretty sure you can find many more people with other problems in XDA.....would that make a difference to your purchase? :D

Yes they just need to check file integrity, but maybe Google doesn't want to take that risk and thus requires us of a more stable connection to download the update.

The thing is applications are a different matter altogether from system updates. If the download for an application is corrupted, the application would probably just be unable to launch. With a system update you run the risk of possibly crashing your phone.

Oh now I see it! I must be blind, I never noticed before... =:p
Thanks!!

Seems like it is not a custom rom feature after all. But if you are curious, I'm using xylon . Will not recommend flashing it now as there's still some fixes to be done for 4.2.2 version.

i wish there was an option from an official patch to underclock the processor so it can save some battery life and reduce heating.. but even so without, still happy with the phone, this has got to be the best phone i ever owned! :s13:

my N4 cannot find silent mode. if upgrade to 4.2.2 got silent mode?
Either hold the power button for 1 to 2 seconds and select the silent icon.
or hold the lower volume button.
it will bring it to silent mode... this is there since the first android version. so nothing to do with versions =)

Is there a way to set screen lock such that after 5 minutes, it locks with PIN/password/pattern, but 0-5min it's just a slide lock? I don't wanna keep authenticating if I'm with the phone, but I don't wanna accidentally unlock my phone while it's in my pocket or something.

Doubt it. You're asking for the phone to switch security method based on time period, which would mean screwing around with the security built into Android.

But you might have success with replicating it with a 3rd party lockscreen replacement. Have the 3rd party one activate immediately on screen off, but the default security lock delayed activation. But that would probably mean after 5 minutes you will have to unlock twice...unless u find a way to kill the 3rd party app right after the security unlock.....

Or u could find a case that makes the power button very hard to press accidentally, root and use touch control.....

The option to enable/disable the selector notification is a custom rom feature. By default, that notification always appears whenever one is in a text entry field.
