The LTE is in place because it is there in the Optimus G. The hardware is a direct transplant more or less from the Optimus G, no surprise to see it there but disabled, likely to be because of licensing issues.

If 3g sucks, how much more 4g? Telcos will be using 4g as a selling point and bump the price higher...

This phone is future proof for USA. As it has LTE chip inbuilt in it! WTF

According to anandtech "it does have the hardware for [LTE] on bands 4, 2, and 1 in theory."

Singapore USING BAND 3!!!! (same as USA Verizon) so NO FREAKING LTE FOR US!!!!!! :s12:
And if LG is bringing in the exact same model, then it's even more intriguing..... :D

Relax......the LTE capability most probably won't ever be unlocked/activated. You're still getting what you paid for.

Technically, it's not possible

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/1...-band-4g-lte-chip-that-you-probably-cant-use/

First, there's no guarantee that the device even has an antenna that supports this radio. Should that not be an issue, iFixit found no LTE power amplifier on the board. That's the part in a phone that takes electricity and turns it into radio waves. It's also the principal reason your device gets hot enough to fry an egg. Basically, it's important, and the Nexus 4 only has a UMTS power amplifier inside. We also know that devices like the T-Mobile Galaxy S III have permanently disabled LTE chips inside. Even if everything else was sorted out, the chip could still be dead.

We're probably going to have to live with HSPA+ on the Nexus 4. This discovery is just a reminder of what could have been.

Wa I see the drop test my heart ache...

Anyhow I'm thinking of getting the Nexus 4 with a bumper and screen protector (which comes in 2s) for the front and the back. Hope that'll be enough protection for a clumsy user like me
