My 6month old xperia s no 3g connection few days back, went to M1 yesterday and tested confirm not M1 or my sim card problem. Called sony c s they told me to troubleshoot my phone but is working fine too. I wonder is there other setting to activate 3g network ?

Brother, why not delete the Network Settings under Settings/More/Mobile Network/Access Point Names then Press Menu button and select Reset to default.

Next, download the settings again. My instruction may not be right as I do not have Xperia S.

Sad my XS got a bad dent on its top housing. Anyone know where can change housing? I sent to Sony repair coz it keep auto-off, but they only fix the software and didn't change housing for me. Sian.

Of course they will not change for you cos you need to pay for it. If it is not so badly dented then just leave it as the change of casing will cost a bit.

Rooting Xperia S

Hello guys,

this is gonna sound damn noob but what on earth is rooting of an Android? I'm under the impression it is similar to jailbreaking on iOS but not sure how similar. Could someone also care to elaborate on the advantages/disadvantages of rooting?

I've got an Xperia S and my friends tell me that rooting of the phone makes it run faster or something like that but unfortunately they use samsungs.

Plus, yall have any step-by-step guide for noobs like me for rooting? thanks!

Just Google and you'll find plenty of articles on what rooting is. Basically, it's similar to jailbreaking, which means gaining access to your device's system files and being able to remove/replace/modify them. Some benefits include being able to remove bloatware, backup all your system files and data, modify the look of the phone (e.g. status bar, menus, etc) and so on.

You can refer to the following to root your Xperia S:

If you want to perform more advanced functions like overclocking your phone to speed up its performance, install custom ROMs and kernels, you'll need to unlock your bootloader. Note that doing so will void your warranty and during the unlocking process, your data will be wiped (so backup first). You'll find many guides on XDA Xperia S forums on this.
