I am looking at crizal eyezen lens. Anyone know how much is the price for this lens with and without transition?

Hi people, I intend to get glasses made in JB. These glasses should have non-prescription transition lenses with blue colour filter coating. I have a couple of questions:

1) Would making such glasses be the cheapest option with decent reliability?

2) If I only wanted to make custom lenses for a frame that I currently own, would doing it in JB be a good option?

3) Based on my requirements, which shops can I look for within JB? I don't mind making a totally new pair with frame and lenses.

4) Generally, what ballpark figure should I be looking at paying for this?

Hi guys,

Just to price share. And hopefully never get chop carrot.

1st pair:
Hoya 1.67 Nulux (Flat lenses.) With transition and charmant frame.
Degree:
R: 750 myopia and 225 astig.
L: 800 myopia and 250 astig.
1480RM

2nd pair:
Zeiss single vision superb 1.5 with DuraVision BlueProtect (blue light protection) and adidas frame.
Degree:
R: 0 myopia and 50 astig.
L: 25 myopia and 75 astig.
1020RM

Oh, and for those who are interested, the exchange rate I managed to get was between 2.97 to 3.00

For such low values of myopia and astigmatism for the second pair, there is extremely few benefits to getting that zeiss lenses at all. It is very likely that you have been over sold. Someone who is not sales oriented would not have recommended it, at most go for normal zeiss if you want duravision blue protect

recently i jus went to do a new pair of specs. ordered the prevencia lens. a few days later, the optical shop called me and informed me their manufacturer had made a mistake and mounted on the eyezen lens instead. they asked if i mind and told me i can try it for a short period of time 1st. if uncomfortable, i can bring it back and re-do the prevencia lens. so i said ok.

when i collected the specs, they told me the price for eyezen lens are cheaper than the prevencia. so i paid less and took the specs. after wearing for a few days, my colleagues' feedback was my eyes looks smaller with the specs. like those reverse magnifying glass effect.

anyone have experiences in this? like maybe eyezen lens have the magnifying glass effect cos of the design which helps our eyes to relax while looking down at books or phones? and from my understanding, the eyezen lens have built-in prevencia. how come is cheaper than the normal prevencia??

Eyezen are like prevencia lens with a power add to help with eye fatigue issues for some. Not sure why they are cheaper, maybe to drive up market share. The extra feature doesn't cost more to manufacture. The main thing is whether you are comfortable with the extra power add, or prefer having lenses without them. Think someone here have bought eyezen before

Any reviews on nation optical? there are two branches, one in AMK ave 4 another in bukit batok.

I am looking for rimless frame + progressive lens(+100-+300). Any recommendations? Is calligraphy progressive lens good? I heard it will cost about 600 for MC code lens.

Generally, many people in this forum likes to go for branded lens. This is unnecesssary except for special cases, like you need very high index lens, double aspheric lens, or personalised freeform lens, special progressives, tints etc.

Other than that, many of the technology behind existing products have been around for many years, and the lens for both branded and unbranded lens are sometimes even made in the same OEM factory. Often the difference is due to marketing.

There are a wide variety of blue light reduction lenses on the market. But significant number of them have no evidence of benefit, it's more of marketing. it is doubtful that reducing a small percentage of blue light in a narrow spectrum can do much. There are others that will cut out more blue light, but that will change color perception.

Polymer lenses do not last forever. Instead of spending all the hassle travelling to malaysia to get expensive normal branded lenses with the risk of being chop carrot, might as well go to your neighbourhood shop to get economical unbranded lenses and change them yearly.

thanks for your reply. so far everything looks normal. just tat today i did some reading and after some time i feel abit giddy. dont know isit the new lens or due to the bus ride after work today by a f1 bus driver. lol....

For traditional low index materials like cr-39, the accompanying coatings are also well developed and established, accessible to most players in the industry.

For coatings accompanying high index materials, and those with newer functions such as blue reflective coatings, the premium players might have slightly better coatings.

However, blue reflective coatings have not been proven to be effective and helpful. For others, it might not be cost effective. It might still be cheaper to change an OEM lens yearly compared to changing a premium lens every two years.

calligraphy progressive lens are freeform progressive lens. They are an improvement over stock progressive lens. However, freeform lenses are more expensive.

It depends on individuals whether they see benefits in selecting freeform progressive lenses. If you have previously chosen stock progressive lenses and is not satisfied, then you can try freeform.

Hi all, just sharing some info here.
Have been wanting to get photochromic lenses and found this writeup.
Pretty informative for those of you looking for Transitions lenses.

Transitions lenses have always blocked blue light

I was at Nanyang Optical (Clementi Mall) yesterday and bought a pair of glasses (ended up with 2 pairs).
Collecting next weekend so can't comment on quality and workmanship.

And just some pricing for reference.
Lenses for myopia ~375

Transitions Signature lenses
1.5 index: $260
1.6 index: $310

I was offered a promo that was not published. With purchase of Transitions lenses I can either:
1 - get 20% off the lens price, and get the frame free (a select range, but there's quite a lot of frames) OR
2 - get the 1st frame free, plus a pair of 3rd party lenses with Transitions VI coating and 50% discount on the 2nd frame.

I opted for option 2, since I need a pair of spare glasses for home use.

End up total damage: $310 (1.6 Transitions lens) + $62 (2nd pair of frame) = $372 for 2 pairs of Transitions.
Frames were both "Trent" brand. No idea how good they are, but I've never gone for branded frames in all my (>20) years of wearing eye glasses.

Oh yes, I also asked if the Transitions were anti blue, then the lady told me I can add on if I want to. Need to top up $100 for Crizal prevencia to be added to the lens, but then, the lens is no longer the Signature series. Need to get the RX series, and the prices were different (costs more)! Luckily I've read the article above, and know that Transitions already have built in anti blue, thus I did not go ahead. What I'm confused about is: why do they offer prevencia on top of Transitions when Transitions themselves already are anti blue?
