Assuming someone spends 10+ hrs on a day on digital screens such as monitors / tablets / mobile phones, which lens is recommended? Eyezen / Crizal Preventia / Transitions / ZEISS DuraVision BlueProtect / Hoya Blue Control? Which shop in Singapore would you recommend to get these lenses and a frame?

Is it normal to experience eye redness and some pain after an increase of power to a new pair of spec ?

Also will lower index lens more likely to cause glare by the side of the spec ?

prior to this the most expensive lens i ever owned was $80 hoya stellify 1.5
it was shocking when the person show me the prices from the brochure, maybe should have asked for other band like tokai or wad...

Hi all, just sharing some info here.
Have been wanting to get photochromic lenses and found this writeup.
Pretty informative for those of you looking for Transitions lenses.

Transitions lenses have always blocked blue light

I was at Nanyang Optical (Clementi Mall) yesterday and bought a pair of glasses (ended up with 2 pairs).
Collecting next weekend so can't comment on quality and workmanship.

And just some pricing for reference.
Lenses for myopia ~375

Transitions Signature lenses
1.5 index: $260
1.6 index: $310

I was offered a promo that was not published. With purchase of Transitions lenses I can either:
1 - get 20% off the lens price, and get the frame free (a select range, but there's quite a lot of frames) OR
2 - get the 1st frame free, plus a pair of 3rd party lenses with Transitions VI coating and 50% discount on the 2nd frame.

I opted for option 2, since I need a pair of spare glasses for home use.

End up total damage: $310 (1.6 Transitions lens) + $62 (2nd pair of frame) = $372 for 2 pairs of Transitions.
Frames were both "Trent" brand. No idea how good they are, but I've never gone for branded frames in all my (>20) years of wearing eye glasses.

Oh yes, I also asked if the Transitions were anti blue, then the lady told me I can add on if I want to. Need to top up $100 for Crizal prevencia to be added to the lens, but then, the lens is no longer the Signature series. Need to get the RX series, and the prices were different (costs more)! Luckily I've read the article above, and know that Transitions already have built in anti blue, thus I did not go ahead. What I'm confused about is: why do they offer prevencia on top of Transitions when Transitions themselves already are anti blue? :s11:

All comments welcome! :)

prevencia is a coating that reflects a bit of blue light

some photochromic dyes might probably absorb a bit of blue light also in the inactivated state. When activated by UV, it absorbs light across the spectrum.

not sure about the eye redness...

heard that high index lens will cause more reflections and more glare, not the traditional cheap low index lens

Hi need some advice.
My degree for both eyes are around 900+, stabilised already, usually make spectacles will have to get the thinnest lens due to the high degree and cost around $500 plus. Would it be possible to purchase online, just inform them of the degree and get it for cheaper? If so, any sites to recommend? Thank you.

usually online site ususally cater to low to middle power lens, not such high power ones. high power ones are somewhat trickier, lens and measurements that are not made properly will more easily result in peripheral distortion.

For cheaper options, go to neighbourhood shop and can try cheaper non premium lens such as hitop lens, or try asking about high index glass, though they are more fragile. not sure if they will be cheaper nowadays since they are less commonly used already.

none. they are too expensive and reflect too little blue light to be effective. try the programme called flux.

If you really want,

1. go for the cheapest brand. aka ILT Blusteel, owndays etc.
2. buy your glasses and tint them 10% amber

both or roughly the same in effect.

ftpofmpo@,

I wish I saw this earlier.. Ended up buying Crizal Preventia. But I am going to use Flux from today and reduce the amount of bluelight.

Perfect timing. Thank you so much!

No prob, nowadays iPhone has night shift mode. Flux on android requires root though, where an alternative is twilight.

Of course, we can just switch off electronic devices at night

Hello ! Would any kind soul be able to advise me on getting my new pair of spectacles?

I am short sighted and having astig. L / R : 1.3. And Budget around : $700 - $800.

Looking for non- circular frame as I have oval , round face. Think of the actress Beenice Liu (Liao bi er), slight chubby shape.

I like the brand Porsche design but realise the brand is printed . Which may lead to peeling in the Long run. Tried Ic! Berlin. I like the light-weight of it. But before I jump into it, I would like more opinion and advices for the frame .

As for lenses, I have not checked at all yet. But seen lots of great reviews in here for Carl Zeiss Duravision Platinum . So might add that

Went to KS very early this morning but apparently their variety is abit limited. But am happy to see Dita and Myiki. Am actually hoping to avoid Ray Ban as the design is very popular and everywhere. But seems like they have something that suits me.

Anyone have any idea where can I find more Porsche Design & Armani? Even better, any shopping mall that has many many optic shops at the same place?

Blue filter lenses

Hi all,

Have decided to get a pair of spectacles with a blue-filter lens given the amount of work I do in front of a computer, and am comparing between Hoya Blue Control and Zeiss Blue Protect - both high index.

I have been given to understand that for the Zeiss:-

- multi-coating is more durable
- it's slightly more scratch resistant
- lenses have a slightly less degree of yellowish tinge.

Given that the Zeiss comes at a non-insignificant upcharge, could anyone advise if :

- the above is true
- in your opinion, if there is a need to go for the zeiss? I generally try to take care of my glasses, though I am not anal about it. I wipe off smear marks only with a proper cloth, and wash regularly with/out mild soap.

Many thanks for any opinions and views!
