1.6 .. they quoted mewhat is the thickness index?
Hi all! I currently wear a pair of Owndays with progressive lenses.
I am looking to make a new pair with my updated presbyopia situation.
I know Zeiss are highly regarded and recommended here but wonder if there are any affordable brands/models that you can recommended for progressive lenses besides Zeiss?
Also any shops that does reading glasses?
Exploring both options.
My thanks in advance!
Price will always vary depending on which store you walk into. For your prescription, usually a 1.5 would suffice unless you want it really thin/ the frame you picked will suit better with a 1.6 index.Got quoted at spectacle hut for Nikkon ultimate progressive lens at $1840 is it chop carrot price or got cheaper price elsewhere
Yeah... $1,840 quite ex for 1.6 index even for nikon seemax progressive. Did u go for it?1.6 .. they quoted me
Nope.i did not go for it.still considering as quite ex .haha..Yeah... $1,840 quite ex for 1.6 index even for nikon seemax progressive. Did u go for it?
Is the difference in prescription very different between both your eyes?Does anyone knows how to deal with aniseikonia problems that starts with wearing new progressive glasses?
TIA
Hi there,
Seeking some advice and data from the forum. Many thanks to the forumers who have contributed to this educational thread.
Degree:
Right: SPH -7.0 , CYL -0.25, AXIS 160, ADD +1.5
Left: SPH -7.0, CYL -0.5, AXIS 165, ADD +1.5
Lens history:
2015 Zeiss SV Indi 1.67 Photofusion Grey, i-scription, Duravision BlueProtect UV (No ADD)
2019 Zeiss SV Indi 1.67 Photofusion Grey, Duravision BlueProtect UV (No ADD)
2022 Zeiss Digital Smartlife Indi 1.67 Photofusion Extra Grey, Duravision BlueProtect UV (ADD +1.25)
Find that my 2019 lens is sharper than the 2022 lens for computer viewing so I have been using the 2019 lens for computer and 2022 for general usage including near reading.
Recently went for specialist eye checkup due to eyes getting tired much faster and near sight not as clear as before (turns out ADD increased slightly from 1.25 to 1.5).
Tiredness diagnosed due to some dryness in cornea and also possibly over powered for computer distance so doc recommended trying monovision for computer -> dominant right eye -7.0, L -6.0, no Add.
I'm thinking of getting 2 pair - Monovision just for computer and Progressive for general usage including near reading.
Monovision (mainly computer only)
I looked through the Zeiss website and am confused between the various type of SV lens.
From Zeiss page, it says that Smartlife is optimised for both far and near and delivers improved optical performance with larger, clear FOV compared to SV spherical and aspherical lenses.
I don't really need the far and near benefits but it seems there is some improvement in optical performance?
And it seems there is a Zeiss Clearview as well?
Q1) If clarity is my main priority, which Zeiss SV lens should I go for?

Zeiss quite ex imo. For me, i took hoya mystyle profile straightaway as my first progressive (2nd highest tier, considered as customised and not personalized). Hoya highest tier progresdive ID myself requires the shop to have hoya identifier machine to take the requisite measurements which most shops do not have so no point take highest tier if the shop not willing to buy the expensive hoya equipment. Previously was using hoya SV nulux EP. Hoya is serving me well enough at a friendlier price. U might want to consider for its value and better scratch resistant properties?RRP
Q4) May I know the RRP for the following:
Zeiss SV Indi 1.67, DuraVision Blueguard
Zeiss SV Smartlife Indi 1.67, DuraVision Blueguard
Zeiss Progressive Smartlife Indi 1.67, Photofusion Duravision Platinum UV
Zeiss Progressive Smartlife Superb 1.67, Photofusion Duravision Platinum UV
Progressive
After going through the thread, it seems that Zeiss, Hoya, and possibly locally lab cut Jap lens are some good options.
Q2a) As the progressive lens are very expensive and I would like to have them last a little longer, would it make sense to future proof a little by increasing the Add power to +1.75 (1 of the optical shop i visited tested my Add at +1.75)
Q3b) There are shops that sell Zeiss but do not offer the Smartlife lens, does that mean they are not so well supported by Zeiss for warranty / support?
I would trust the results taken at the clinic more. in my case most of the results were around the same, except the ADD at clinic was 0.25 below than shop. my eyes were quite tired during this period so some slight difference may be normal i suppose.May I know why the eye screening results taken from hospital is higher than optical shop? Few days apart only. So which results to trust then?
Since you already have laohua add +1.50 then no point taking SV lens unless you need to see very clearly far far away. Else taking office lens much better imo.Monovision (mainly computer only)

Since you already late 40s i think taking +1.75 as future proof might be better if i am you i will do that. Im mid 40s already taking +1.5 even though +1.25 might already be sufficient.@Seannie ,
thanks for your reply. definitely considering Hoya but just wanted to get a sense of what the pricing for Zeiss is as a benchmark. I did get some non-smartlife quotes but wanted to find out how much the smartlifes were like.
in my late 40s.
interestingly, when i did my smartlife digital (2022 lens), i don't recall the shop using any special machine. but the 2015 lens with the i-scription, that required some special machine.
