I just feel at least giving it a try mighttt be better so at least you know what you are getting for the remake. Just my thought...

Yes they did give me try but can't really feel anything for the short period I try out. I mean like the headache kick in like 15 - 30 min.
I actually OK without wearing glasses but due to the aggressive lighting in my office. Feel better with glasses on.

You can go to a spec shop and ask for a consultation(probably have to pay), or go to the sp/np optometry centre(cheaper) and request for your prescription and PD after that. Hope this helps!

Hello everyone, nice to see an active thread discussion.

I would like to ask for some opinion. I've tried getting my specs from an online store but had to return it due to the misfit in size of frame. My degree is low (or I believe so, about 100 each side with astigmatism). I'm still toying with idea if I should go JB make my specs or are there better recommendations in SG ? I'm a lady but I need those wider frames (at least 57mm with 17mm bridge). Not a whole lot of range for me usually (that's what I experienced. Maybe due to my high checkbone and wide face).. Am looking for something light, simple black thin frame (nosepads) with blue filter.

Ok, I know this is quite a cast in the ocean, but any views are greatly appreciated. I'm quite new to these glasses and lens thing.

Good evening,
Based on what you mentioned and your face shape, it's be better if you get frames that have nosepad which can push the frame further from your face. As if mentioned earlier, high cheek bones users tend to have the issue of frame touching the face at the lower segment. Frames without nose pads will tend to sit closer to the frame even if the nose area is "asian-fit". But you can always customise the frame and add in titanium nose pads on the frame if it is not too thin.
You can consider frames like eyevan, modo, USH or yuichi toyoma, mykita. If bigger sizes required then next option is Starck/Alain mikli, they have pretty wide frames.
Note that frames that I mentioned cost 300+ above for frames itself.

I am sure based on earlier post by other users, KS should be reliable on these aspects that you mention. Unfortunately sl optics I'm not too sure..

Lenses wise, in my personal opinion, respectively from Favourite. Hoya, zeiss, essilor. But just me as I tried all 3 before. I just feel all 3 clarity is fine for me(I'm not ngiao/sensitive to clarity) and in terms of coating..based on my ranking you get the idea. Each Brand’s has its own pros and cons but still it depends very much on the user themselves to feel it since everyone eyes are different. Hope it helps bro!

Thanks for your comments. I'll decide on KS then. I don't mind a slightly more expensive but excellent and honest service. My last purchase felt that I was being duped and was stupid enough not to take into account of my temple distance properly. If the sales guy was honest, he would have informed me to pre-order a better fit rather than just clearing existing stock.

Ah yes, I highly believe that progressive lenses will help you with this issue.
The way a progressive works is that the top area generally is for your distance, The middle area(a small area) is for intermediate viewing e.g. computer monitor screens and finally the bottom segment is meant for near reading. In your case the reason why the reading is blurred like i mentioned earlier is due to the Presence of Presbyopia. Thus progressive lenses has addition(add) power at the reading segment to actually aid you in the near work.
How it actually works is E.g. the top segment(distance power is -1.50) , the power gradually decreases down the lens e.g. top -1.50 middle -1.00 bottom -0.50 thus all these lowered power is actually the addition power for you to do your near reading work. Because near reading powered is term as e.g. +1.00 +1.50 (addition) thus from a -1.50 to a -0.50 there is a difference of +1.00. Thus your reading power is +1.00.
There are also alot more about progressives such as the peripheral distortions, the different Corridors Long/short and more..

Nope not really! It has different power inside(gradual from TOP to bottom, the way the lens is grind and made) unlike bifocals whereby there is kinda like another lens at the lower segment of the lens(more obvious).
Progressives does not and will just look like any other lenses in the market.

I wanted to change my specs due to too many scratches, so went to an Owndays yesterday (Saw a frame I liked & the price was $178 for frame + lens). I'm still a student so thought it was pretty decent as my budget is around $300 only.

But when I did my eye test, the guy told me the machine results show my astigmatism too high for them to do. My astig has been very high all along (current specs is 400 for left eye, 500 for right) and he said my astig went up to 500 for left, 700 for right. Apparently Owndays caps their lens at 600 astig, so he said they could either make back the same prescription as my current specs / I request my own prescription i.e. I ownself decide what to get, like astig 500 left 600 right (their max) / go see doctor to get an accurate prescription (His most recommended)

1) Any idea on where to do a thorough eye check up and get prescription at a reasonable price? (Budget pls still student) I saw the NPOC/SPOC recommendation but I think they closing as poly school term ending already. Polyclinic can do eye checkup???

2) Reading the thread it seems like a lot of ppl don't think Owndays is good? Any other shops/brands to recommend that can make specs frame + lens (around 500 degree and high astig). Prefer something that is more scratch resistant as my specs always kena a lot of scratches.

Probably you need to go to the national eye center at SGH for a thorough checkup. I am not sure how much it costs but you can give a call first for an estimate.

You can try Zoff near Tokyu Hands in Orchard Central whether they cater for such lenses. Pricing is quite competitive nowadays so you probably can find many options within your budget.

If your astig is So high and more than 600degree, not many companies can do it. What I know and you can enquire is ICRX(Japan) or Shamir(Israel) lenses. They can up to 900 degree astigmatism. But cost of lenses is surely out of your Budget. But asking my colleagues, his cx ever mentioned of doing such high astig for 300 plus(take note of the amount) but quality of the lenses, definitely is cmi.
Pretty much have to source around more shops to see.
Ball park figure for 700 degree astig is around 300 plus before less. Hope this helps for bow!
