All Brand’s have their good ones e.g. Essilor physio/s-design, Hoya id lifestyle/id/trueform premium, zeiss superb/precision plus? Shamir autograph, Nikon seemax pro...There are more Brand’s but these are what I usually recommend. Because i feel the comfort for the patient is better as by hand I know the comfort is good. But my lens of choice so far is still Hoya 😅

Thanks GANGSTERKIA. Which brand is good for their progressive lens?

Good afternoon!

To your headache/strains, Yes, highly likely is due to ''Lao hua'' or presbyopia. Usually it hits you bad when you reach 40-43, some gets it at 37-40. Your eyes will be straining to see the words and you might have to adjust them further to see slightly clearer.

I think what they recommend could be progressive lens which comes with Crizal coating. Take note that crizal is not a brand of lens but the coating that is applied on the lenses. Shamir blue zero is like a Blue filter lenses that filters out a certain percentage of blue light emitted from electronic devices.

Yes blue light will be able to penetrate through our lenses as the usually cuts off about 30% of the blue light. We cannot cut it off completely as we still need a certain amount of blue light to carry on with our daily live. Also if you actually look at those lenses that cuts off 50-60% blue light, they are very yellow when you look through them as compared to the normal ones. Shamir Blue zero tend to look less blue/yellow as their lenses are different from the normal ones(from my knowledge).

Kodak is pretty old.. i think you can consider NIKON or maybe hoya/zeiss too.

Hope this helps! feel free to ask more qns if needed.

Hi Gangsterkia,

I have a similar problem hope u can share ur opinion.

I am 38 now but already having difficulty reading small fonts esp on my mobile since last year. I can see the text but it's uncomfortable and straining.

So I had a new prescription glasses made with 50 degree lesser power. Was 600(650) on the left and 625(675) on the right. Use it mainly in the office for computer work. It worked for me for a year and recently I started to have the same problem again.

My optometrist doesnt recommend progressive lens because of my age(adaption concern due to the distortion). So I went for zeiss digital lenses(blue protect) with the reading area max out to 125 degree lesser(Distance 650/675 and near 525/550). Was ok for 1 month plus and now I started to get the eye strain and neck pain.

I observed that this happen when I was in office looking at my monitor(flicker free n Blue filter) for half a day(or lesser). I raised my chair height and lowered the monitor to angle it to my digital lenses' reading zone. I guessed this might contribute to my neck pain issue. Increased font size in computer, used 20/20/20 rules or even longer breaks but still ended up feeling strained and headache after work everyday(CVS?). I don't read my phone with my specs on which makes me more comfortable. So I think the problem now is with the reading distance to the computer. I might also unknowingly tilt my head downwards and resulted in using the distance zone to view the monitor. Only weekends i feel better when i don't use the computer.

Do you think I should go for office lens or a single vision lens with example 125 degree lesser to use in office for intermediate and near work? I will use my digital lens as general glasses when I am not in office. Or do you have other suggestions?

Really hope I can resolve this to get rid of the persistent strain and headache.

Hi bro,

After reading about the issue, i will slowly break it down..
Your optom is right regarding the Digital lenses as progressive right now is still abit early.I would term digital lenses more like a stepping stone to reach your progressive stage. It would help you to get adapted to the way the progressives work come later stage of your lfie. At your age wise, +1.25 is more than enough.. and whats more if we talking about computer distance usually the distance is further than our normal reading distance thus that amount of addition is sufficient.

What i can think of could be(assuming the power is all correct), the way the lens is being cut. There are different ways to cut the digital lenses, Firstly, there is something called the fitting cross where by its where your eyes are viewing through from. Normal fitting cross placement when the lens is cut will take maybe 2-3cm to reach the reading segment. However, the optometrists might be able to request for the lens to shift the fitting cross higher and in turn, that will result you in maybe taking just 1-1.5cm to reach the reading area.

Before i reach any conclusions, can you test this out too, just put your computer and chair all at your preferred comfortable position, Then you just test this out. Focus on your computer screen, maybe a picture/word, then slowly tilt your head up and down, and see if theres a difference in clarity. If by tilting your head all the way up while fixating the screen causes the image to be alot clearer then probably its could be due to the fitting cross placement(which is still not the optometrist fault of course as usually they will just give the default values to the lab to cut). Give this a try first then let me know your results!javascript:scrolltoTop()

Of course there are still a few other reasons. Possible for you to share with me your Full prescription with your reading ADD too?
E.g.R: +1.00/-1.00X180 Reading add +1.00.
L:+1.00/-1.00X180 Reading add +1.00
(distancepower/Astig/Astig Axis) respectively.

Hi Bro,

Firstly thanks for your reply. Appreciate it.

When I look straight its clear. When I tilt my head up, the text on the screen gets blurred.I believe the lower portion of the lens, about 2-3cm like what you said is the reading area.

Sorry i am not too sure how to provide the info according to your "formula, but i see my Zeiss card says

R: SPH (-6.75) CYL(BLANK) AXIS (BLANK)ADD (1.25)
L: SPH (-6.50) CYL(BLANK) AXIS (BLANK)ADD (1.25)

Seems like no astig? But the strange thing is when i pop-by an optical shop the person measured my current zeiss digital and told me I had 0.25 astig on my left lens. Maybe I will drop by my optom shop tomorrow or the day after to retrieve my prescription and provide you with more accurate information.

Thanks for your time!

With that budget, quite alot of frames and lens(together) you can actually go with already! not too high end ones of course..
If its old then better not, you never know when will it give way:X

From this, there's a small possibility that the Add power might be a little high.. maybe just +0.75-+1.00 is needed, But its all just speculations! You can always go back to check with your optom again to see if that's the case. Let me know the outcome tomorrow!:)

Does it mean just take the SPH reading minus off the ADD reading is the prescription to order lens then no need progressive right? I have no issues with vision yet but taking preparations so that i know wat to do when it hits me anytime soon. Im going to be 40 soon and very high SPH and CYL. Will there be any issues? My optom said i might have adaption problems but progreesive lenses are much more costly.
