Hi Gangsterkia, out of curiosity, I would like to find up more. Recently, my friend “transited” from myopia to progressive lens. His power for both eyes is around 575 plus some degrees of presbyopia and astig. However, less then 1-2 days of adapting to the progressive lens, he ditched it and went back to his single vision lens. He claimed that “pressure” formed on his head after putting on the progressive lens. Is there any remedy to it? Personally, I feel it would be a waste of 4 digits if the lens become white elephant? Thank you so much.
Hey!
Oh no, i won’t be able to determine the issue behind my phone screen..
There are many possibilities,
1)frame adjustment causing him not to see through the correct area
2)prescription issue
3)measurement issue-eyepoint being input wrongly
4)Him using the wrong area of the lens to view different distance e.g. using distance portion to read/chin down and using supposed top portion of the lens to see near rather than lower portion..

could his practitioner help him?

Always appreciate your lighting reply and valuable inputs. Assuming I can rule out 1) and 2). I have no clue about 3). That said, I am more inclined to 4). I am aware our brain is highly adaptable; guess he has to visit the optical shop. No short cut for him. Thanks

Hello Gangsterkia.
Just wanna ask some stuff not sure if you know about it.
My astig has been very bad since young. Around 550 degrees each eye. As such my lenses have always been very expensive, around $150-ish excluding the frame. Cos of that i tend to make my specs last like 2 to 3 years cos i dont want to spend that amount every year.
My current specs has lasted for 3 plus years but recently the nose bridge broke when it got hit by a basketball, so i'm in the market for a new pair.
I have been going around to get some price gauge and to my horror, almost everyone quoted me close to $300 for my lenses only. Has the price of lenses gone up so much these few years? Do you know of any shops that can still do lenses at an affordable price? Heart pain to pay close to 500 for a new pair of specs.

Hey!
I understand your feelings… haha prices are increasing at a fast rate.
Can I confirm that it’s your astig that’s 500 and not your myopia?

Hi Gangsterkia,

The field of vision (for computer screen) of my current progressive lens is not sufficiently wide (less than ideal). Planning to change the lens on an old spectacle frame so that it can be used purely for computer viewing.

My degrees:
Right: -1.00 x -0 75 x 168
Left: -1.25 x -1.00 x 168
Reading (A): +2.00 (R) and +1.75 (L)

Spoke to an optician and understand that I will need a (+) plus power single vision lens with 75mm diameter to fit my old spectacle frame which is on the big side (size 60). The optician mentioned that it is difficult to find stock single vision lenses of this specification.

Any thoughts on availability of such stock (+) plus power single vision lens with 75mm diameter in SG? To clarify, I'm not looking for high end custom lens, just something basic and reasonably priced will do.

Hi!
I read through your post and yes your practitioner is not wrong about the limit a stock/ready (+) lens diameter is limited to..
you would have to rx/customise the lens which would cost more… I would say probably about 200 range for a pair of such lenses..

Thanks for the info. Looks like I would have to go for the customized lens, or get a smaller frame so as to fit the stock (+) lens 60mm diameter availability

Not sure why you need to change lens every 2-3 years. Get better lenses so that can last longer like hoya, zeiss at least 5-7yrs if your power has already stabilized.

Heard of myopia power above 1,000 degrees but rarely heard astig 500 degree. Good luck and take good care of your eyes. High astig alot of risks. My astig 300+ already need RX order takes 2 weeks. Your astig so high still can get stock lens so cheap $100+ only?

All can do. But, I personally recommend going to shops carrying the frame. As they understand what to tell the lens edging company..

Hi, you could consider using hoya nulux EP, it is a double aspheric lens thus the lenses will be thinner and hoya coating is very durable.
The cost is about 740 though. Think of It like an upgrade…
Saw that there promo for Hoya now in the last few pages? Is it still valid?
