Hello experts,
I have about -3.00 and 0.75 astig. (left eye is worse, so -3.50)
I would like to seek some advice on getting anti-fatigue, office lens or progressive lens.
I'm early 40s, and have been coping with long hours of computer usage by wearing a reduced Single Vision lens.
I started with +0.75 about 2 to 3 years back, otherwise end of day my right eye will have pain/strain and clearly visible red lines on the inner side (closer to the nose) very consistently, when wearing my full prescription lenses.
I'm now more comfortable working with monitor at about arms length++, with +0.75 or +1.00 single vision.
Sometimes when using phone even with +1.00, need to put further away (elbow length+ away from eye). The trade off is I'm kinda short-sighted when going to another colleague's desk to look at their screen, need to get pretty close.
Cannot really focus for long when wearing my full prescription lens for any intermediate (about 1m) or nearer work anymore. The mini-fication effect (and sometimes barrel distortion) is uncomfortable.
Progressives seem like a bad choice as I rarely need to see far, and the intermediate point is supposedly very specific and hard to use for longer durations. (I've been reading this thread's history through google search results and reading other websites)
I'm thinking, for working hours where I'm mostly at my desk, an office lens would be the best? But I'm not too sure if there's any "transition" diopters from intermediate to near. In my mind, when I'm bunkered down, +0.75 for maximum long duration comfort, with and +1.00 or +1.25 near zone. (But this is like only a +0.50 "progression" range... most will advice to not need it?) At this range, is there a difference between a reduced prescription anti-fatigue vs an office lens?
Then if there are meetings or longer distance vision needs, I get a pair of progressives or anti-fatigue? Basically clear far distance view, and then bottom half something to see phone/laptop/book without strain or having to put an awkward amount of distance between to see/focus clearly. But since my maximum add is probably +1.25 at most, progressives are too early for me?
I think I'll eventually need to get both office lens and progressives. But for starters, which of the 3 lenses would be a better introduction into such lenses for me? (And some recommended brands/models that are bang for buck?)
(I likely would classify myself as sensitive to lens distortions etc..)
Thanks for reading.
