Yes hand on skills mean cutting lenses which is why one of my optician opted to do it himself, for both better quality & cost, but the problem is whether his skills are good or not.
If pearl is also a chain stall, i rather they send my zeiss lenses to labs rather than doing it at their one centralised in house lab, becos if they had to rush jobs u can imagine how good is the finished product. Unless its one shop only then i think doing in house is better. Some shops just have the pockets deep enuff to get their own machines, not becos they can have the volume to warrant the purchase of such capital intensive machines. Usually chain stores dont do in house as they are more inclined to retail sales unless they send to a common lab to do it. I have never seen in house labs in nanyang, optical88, spectacle huts, capitol optical and better vision having the biggest number of retail outlets in sg. All these send to labs. Pearl started out as in house then as it progresses to chain stalls i suppose they changed the way of doing things maybe some they do in house some they send to labs. But overall seems like labs still a safer choice although they have huge volumes to meet but the staff are specialised in their job functions, unlike in the shops they have to do CS, optometry & dispensing all at same time. When u cant conxentrate u tend to make more mistakes missing out on QC. As for the lab ple, everyone assigned do different jobs. The ladies do sales etc while guys some in charge of full rim, another in charge of semi rim, another in charge of rimless and another just doing RX. Each has his own specialised job scope i think better this way. No?
