Hi all,

I would like to know, in your opinion, which optician offers the most value for money?

I am currently using owndays over a year now and my frame had started peeling, so it is time for me to get a new pair. I am currently using an hi-index lens (1.73) with blue light filter and the whole package set me back by $398.

Not sure if there is better offers out there.

Popped into a spectacle shop in Japan and was blown away by the fact that their glasses are handmade with minute attention to finish and details - this is celluloid with steel combination. Maker's name is engraved in kanji characters, and the phrase "hand made" is as well. Cheaper than your Oliver Peoples, Tom Ford, and whatever designer glasses are in vogue right now.

Process of how the spectacles are crafted.

Does anyone know the RRP of:
  • Crizal transitions signature v7
  • Crizal transitions XtraActive

1. If I were to use a rimless frame, how much more will it cost - for thicker lens right?
2. Is it cheaper to go JB city square or KSL to do it?

I have been using crizal prevencia lens a few months only and notice it gets fine scratches easily. I am a very careful person and always use the spectacle cloth to wipe only.

I notice crizal prevencia lens is lousier than no brand lens and hoya lens as I have been using them too and no fine scratches. The Hoya I have used is a few years longer than the crizal prevencia and have almost none fine scratches. I take care all my lens the same way, seems like crizal prevencia is more easily scratched, anyone else have same experience?

(my meaning of fine scratches is those that will appear as you use the lens for a long time, I did not scratch the lens, but somehow it will just appear if you use a long time, very fine)

Thinking of getting a pair of Silhouettes with Crizal Transitions Signature (or Prevencia, depends on cost)...

Are silhouette glasses good? I tried looking for reviews on the web but don't seem very convincing - more like adverts to me. Quite scared of the hinges (or Temples) breaking just like my older pair of Oakleys.

Anyone knows of any optician that has a machine that can measure how well your lens blocks out UV light?

I used to know one but they closed shop already. Went to a few today all dont have.

Going to make a new pair soon, which lenses better? Owndays, crizal, Carl zeiss, etc

My degree abut 700 astig about 150. Will need Super high index. Owndays 1.74 costs $198, less a $30 voucher will be $168. Unsure about other brand's prices.

Better to do in JB?

other brand prices sure much higher than owndays.

if u are price conscious, go with owndays. no point go all the way to JB to save a couple of bucks
