Yes, those opticians always tell me that the lens will turn out about to be the same thickness as the pair im wearing. Almost all will say that. And i suppose they rarely have customers with high power so cant really give good advice. At the moment, i can still afford to make mistakes & redo my specs. But once i reach age 40 & gets laohua i think i will not be able to anymore becos progressive hoya lens are so expensive, just one pair costs $900, double the price of single vision
for your kind of power, the thickness can still be estimated. I got one customer whose power is -1800 and she asked me to tell her how thick the lens will be, i told her sorry i can't estimate it's out of range on my charts.
I don't understand why you say it's your mistake when you have not been properly advised by the optician in the first place. when i see people with big frames and thick lenses, its almost always the fault of the optician who could not visualise how the final product will look like.
