oh, in that case, i will seriously consider retiring in australia upon my old age, i think they take about an hour just to have an eye checkup there during a regular visit? same as their healthcare as well? i don not mind paying if they can really provide that kind of top quality.

In sg, even if you willing to pay they will provide the same level of service with the higher price. They will just think that you are a stupid carrot for them to chop.

Has anyone done prescription on a Oakley crosshair or those more curved sunglass frames?

Last time I ask my neighbour optician, they say too curve, no lab can do it. Or rather even if able the lens would be very ex.

JUST TRUST HIM. it's true. Unless u use 1.56 lens. May fit but protruding.

In Singapore, we are trained to do that as well. Just that once we graduate. No bosses actually allow us to practice as mentioned. That's why we don't practice them. But if the patients is willing to pay for them, I don't see why the bosses wouldn't allow them.

Yes u can, but u can only use original Oakley lens, which is very expensive. I have a pair of half jacket using original Oakley prescription lens.

i think most of us know about what you meant BUT the problem in SG is, optometrist/opticians in sg most of them do not really care about our eyes, to them, only giving you a minimum eye refraction is what they considered very good enough, any extra service they will label you as "troublesme typical". Im not satisfied with the service i get as such i can only rely on the hardware as a kind of comfort. I think the problem here is that the population in sg is overcrowded & not enough experienced people who are willing in this industry & most likely people nowadays dont tend to have that kind of responsibility to make the effort to provide good service.

I think a lot of parents don't care about their kids eyes and alot of people don't care about their own eyes. Why ? because they are not willing to fork out money to have their eyes tested by certified/ qualified optometrists. Many people walk into an optical shop and expect optometrists to check their eyes for FREE.

Parents are turned off when told of a consultation charge for testing their kids eyes ( when some other shop do it for free). So these parents bring their kids to somewhere where eye testing is "free". Good luck to them.

Seriously, who will do a proper job for you if expect a service to be FREE. Most of the opticians who do it for free are usually the old school or unqualified ones. They only do a refraction because they do no know how to do other stuff.

after offering a free eye test, In order to get a sale, some opticians will say your eyes got some eye degree or some problem (even though there isn't any) and make you buy a pair of glasses. If not you think they eat air?

there are optometrist who do thorough eye exams before dispensing you with optical aids. question is, are people willing to pay for the service?

I think you got it wrong. Not many optometrist in australia will take up 1 hour to check your eyes unless you stay in the bushes where business is very slow. :s13: Besides, not many people want to go through a 1 hour eye check. :s22:

It just doesn't make economical sense for them to check a customer's eyes for one hour, doing all the unncessary tests. Under their medicare scheme, a short consult is about 20min and long consult is 40 min. maybe if you include waiting time if they put drops in your eyes, it adds up to an hour. :look:

The length of the consultation / eye check has nothing to with the quality of eye care you are getting. Do you want to see a experience specialist doctor who can diagnose / treat your problem in a short time or see an inexperience houseman/ registrar making you go through all the diagnostic test before coming up with a diagnosis and treating your problem?

Not because of it's scratch proof or any other proof. Cause I am quite particular about tiny bits of dust and small patches of finger prints or moisture? Wonder if Crizal can help solve this problem.

Crizal has all the faults that you mentioned... doesn't feel any special from normal lens... i have a pair that i wear everyday to work... they are polycarbs.... chipped off twice.. got it replaced luckily is FOC

That's exactly what I experienced last year.
First case. I got a mom bringing in her 5 year old child. That Child seems like a hyperactive child or at least mischievous. Thus I reccommended poly carb lenses which is more suitable invade he knocks himself into something and hurt his eyes. In fact in USA all children are required by law to be prescribed polycarbonate lenses unless in special cases. That mom was carrying a prada bag with loads of branded clothes. She said "I don't want to spend so much on specs. Children break things easily". That's precisely my point. Safety of the child. End up she paid me using a 1000 dollar bill for a $99 spectacles.

Second case. After checking the eye of a Filipino child about 7 years of age. She never worn glasses her entire life. I realize that there is some problems with her eye muscles and her astigmatism is abnormally high. And the onset of blurred vision is only 1 week ago. I suspected something more serious than refractive error. I wrote a referral letter for her mom to bring her to the hospital. Her mom just give me that weird stare when I said I need to charge her for consultation. They even waited in the store for 3 hours for the child's dad to arrive. Even after explaining to her dad of the condition of his daughter, he keeps insisting I prescribe glasses for her. However I stood firm and insisted they seek an ophthalmologist for help. In the end they left After paying without even thanking me for my time.

Polycarbonate lenses tend to have a lower optical quality.
