Hi all

Just went to JB city square shopping centre to enquire on prices of crizal lenses and hoya.

I was quotated $330RM for 1.6 crizal lenses with no transition and $408RM  FOR 1.5 crizal lenses with 360 degree view(the salesgirl said that this lense provide very sharp vision and very comfortable to the eyes.dunno how true...)

Was told that hoya lenses almost same price with crizal but can see she keep pushing for crizal lense:s13:

$330rm convert to sing dollars ard $138 and $408rm= $176 sing dollars.Any experts can share their views if in singapore can get this kind of pricing ?? And if jb lenses is it Authentic ?? Is hoya better or crizal ?? :D

Crizal is a coating. From the download I posted below, there are various grades of Crizal - from the basic Crizal sun, crizal, crizal alize, crizal easy, crizal avance & crizal sapphire at the top end.

Hoya coating SFT is comparable to crizal easy & avance.

The card should provide more detains than that. o/w its just a common generic card that does not mean anything, right?

But if that is the case, then you gotta ask the shop. He knows what he is selling you. I suspect it is very likely the basic lens, eg Essilor Ovation/Natural or Varilux Comfort.

Crizal is used for a few lens, from the cheapest to top end models. Look at this link for more info: Crizal_Availability_2012.pdf

Hi all,

thinking of changing my specs (like finally after 5 years plus of using oakley's square wire 2.0) and would like to ask for recommendations for a frame that is not oakley (if possible) but similar in the sense it doesn't have ear "hooks" (somehow I never liked it).

I'm not so picky about branded frames as long as it looks decent enough to be worn into the office. Budget is about $350 for the frames.

Thanks :)

U can try Nike or Adidas. For that price, Nike will suit better. More colourful than Oakley imo.

Hi Guys,

lens decision

I was helping my bro to shop for his spectacles. Having no idea about choosing lens, shop, frames etc, I read/skimmed through the last 50 pages of this thread. Armed w some knowledge I went to a few shops & found that
1. as expected, neighbourhood shops, has ltd variety of frames & they only offer 1 or 2 lens brand. The prices are surprising not that great (in terms of discount quoted from the sticker price or from their catalogue folder)
2. some big chains have big brands which have big prices, so there is ltd mid-range specs. I sense higher sticker prices.
3. shops like those in Queensway suit my needs but some carry ltd lens brand & they like to push certain brands.... Pricing (I think) depends on whether we click with the sales person.

My bro needs progressive; 1.6. Found a shop w wide variety of lens & frames. I didnt want Essilor Crizal, so next best price was Seiko. Hoya costs a little more which is good. I was surprised that Tokai cost much more & Zeiss is the most ex.

I settled for Hoya, Trueform w SFT which turns out to be a good decision. Later I found this link which I think will benefit readers if they want to compare lens brands:
http://www.luzerneoptical.com/pdf/hoya-lens-ar-comparison-guide.pdf
(It takes awhile to download)

:)

I've heard many many great feedbacks for Hoya progressive. From their lowest range Summit CD to Hoya FD.

Well, there are some people who cannot adapt to Hoya but find Essilor better. Same applies to Carl Zeiss.

Different folks, Different strokes. Generally Hoya has great results.

1.6 Crizal advance in sg is $160. Crizal easy/basic around $130.

Never heard of single vision lenses with 360. Did u ask her if u can see things at the back of ur head? (just kidding)

Single vision for crizal higher grade design lenses are :

Azio
Anti Fatigue

I had a pair of 1.67 Azio Transistions. they re-do 3 times. Sadly to say: it still sucks now. Attached to my old Oakley choptop sitting in the case for more than 1 year now.

Mostly Hoya lenses SFT.

Some lenses use Stellify coating, some VP coating.

Imo, all of them don't feel much different. Maybe is the resistance for scratches. Anyway, both are felt to be very good coating. no regrets there.

Hi,

Someone pm me abt whether Crizal in SG is A2 or not.

Crizal in Asia has only 2 types: A2 & Std/Basic. Crizal ®, so perhaps yours is A2. Ask yr spec shop.

Crizal in the US has a wider range of products: US Products
& its international catalog is also different: Crizal Products

SG's crizal website not v meaningful, hence some confusion. Seems like there is only 3 types of coatings:http://www.crizal.com.sg/benefits.html

:look:

Hmmm, just realise Crizal has only 3 types:
Crizal Singapore

The Crizal Advance (SG) is Avance (US) which is not top of the line (Sapphire - US) yet.
The Crizal Easy (SG) is easy (US) which is bottom of the range.
The Crizal Std (SG) is not sold in the US.

I do see some shops with Crizal Alize posters but dunno if they are offered here.

compare:
2012 Crizal Portfolio

:look:
