I think you should first do an eye check and see if the prescription is still valid for your old lenses, especially if its too old.

Also, depending on whether your old frame is rimless, or full frame or half rim, the lenses may have existing drill mount holes or grooves, which are unsuitable with the new frame.

You would also need to select a frame that somewhat able to fit the old lens. This is the hard part. There may be a need to grind the lens and reconfigure the PD also.

If your prescription is dated or there is some scratches or peeled coatings, it is better to do a new lens.

I called up the Oakley Customer Service number to inquire about their warranty policy with regards to prescriptive frames. The warranty now covers the replacement of the ear sock and nose pad for 3 years only, no longer lifetime warranty.

For those frames that were bought when Larrikin was the distributor, the same ruling applies.

HTH.

Thanks for the update. To be honest, I think might as well purchase online or in the US. Better savings even after buying extra ear socks unless one really goes through the silicon ear-socks and nosepad very often like every few months.

Thanks bro. To clarify, the lens are not old, they come from my existing spectacles, just that I accidentally stepped on the frame and now it's bent out of shape haha.

Any recommendations for any shop in town?

I also inquired on the pricing of the ear sock + nosepad set. The price is $30. (for Straight Line 4.0 model)

Can try going to Bras Basah complex if you are in City Hall area or go to People's Park Centre if you are around Chinatown/ Raffles Place area. There are a few well known shops in both places with larger variety that may be able to do some form of "reverse" fitting when you bring along your old lens. Avoid weekends.

I thought Lux bought over Oakley many many years ago already even when Larrikin was still their distributor? Or you mean Lux also took over the entire Oakley local distributorship in Singapore?

What is the new policy on Oakley specs in Singapore now? Assuming one bought it in Singapore with official receipts, they used to offer lifetime warranty and then it was changed to just free replacement of the rubber pads?

Not sure if that stands today because if their prices are fixed and the support is not there, I think alot of people will move away from the brand. The quality is also not as good before.

Long long time ago when larrikin is distro for Oakley, already don't have life time warrenty. It's changed to 1 year internationmal warrenty with extended servicing. emans they will change nose pad and ear socks for their frames only.

Changing nose pads and ear socks does not cover their sunglass range.

Luxottica now fully taken local distro for oakley.

Prices very stiff.. cant do much. they dont keep much stocks in SG. normally ppl wait 4-8 weeks to get their orders from overseas. Frames quality honestly dropped. But due to its branding and shapes, still quite high demand for them.

Just the way it is.. Its like if u want a spefic model, wait for 2 months pls. if u don't like them, no problem.. they have lots of other customers scouring for them.

Maybe i'm a little harsh or bias but this is what i feel recently at a retailer and consumer point of view. Larrikin offer supports but i would say, there are rooms for improvments..

But Luxottica's support.. i feel it's kind of far from what Larrikin offers. Hope is due to the changing of distro recently. hope it gets better.

xiaokaka, thanks for your comments.

Ya, I tried to change my earsocks and I was told that I nee to wait for about 6 weeks for the stock to arrive! I am not even talking about frames here, just 'spare parts'!

xiaokaka, hence what frames would you recommend for quality, say for about $250 - $350 price range?

TIA for replies. :)

Full rim. More hardy, protect the lens more.

thanks. then does it also mean tat more skills is required from the lab technician for mounting semi-rimmed & rimless frames?

So do you mean to say for the half or no rim frames, the lens can get spoilt more easily? How about the secure-ness of lens? Is it true that full rim is also the most secure way of holding the lens?

Im just wondering, becos i dont work in the lab, do the lab technicians hate the half-rim & rimless jobs cos its more hassle for them? Need to tie the nylon and drill holes etc. So will these be more prone to workmanship errors. Wonders how much more time they take to do those half rim / rimless frames compared to full rim.

Rimless is more complicated as techs need to align and drill holes into new lenses and secure them in new frames.

If u ever drop a Full Frame, impact most likely goes to the frame around the lens. protecting it.

If u drop a Rimlon(nylon) or rimless.. guess who will take in the impact?
