Custom made or luxury brands both are equally well made just that we tend to be more stringent in quality when it comes to luxury brands as compared to custom made brands.

Example, if you buy a LV wallet you expect all the stitches to be perfectly straight and the it must be flawless. However when it comes to custom made (hand-made) we like to use "excuse" to cover the flaws like saying "because it is hand-made", "it is unique and different in every piece", "it is the character of the _____ " etc.

When it comes to usage most people also tend to be bias to hand made stuff compared to luxury brand stuff.

Example, most expect luxury brand wallets to last long (maintain the like-new condition) with almost no damage/flaws despite how rough you use it but when it come to custom made most would take the damage/flaws as character from using the wallet over time.

Be it luxury brand or custom made both have it's place and serve different kind of people and neither is better than the other I feel. Rather than comparing brands to brands quality build, find something you like more and don't have high expectation of luxury goods as not everything is equal in value. High value =/= durablity.

Just my 2cents!

Why not? It's a matter of getting the materials only. 8 cards can be done, just a taller wallet that's all. I assume you have not even contacted some of those makers? Corter doesn't really do custom now actually. If you search instagram, there's plenty of options around.

Thanks.

they should have no issues doing 8-card or anything if it the design and material are within their expertise.

but you have to accept their price and a longer wait if they need to procure the specific leather you want which they don't have at the moment.
like buying snake/lizard/stingray skin for overlays for your design when they typically deal with cowhides.

buying low quantities of material with fast shipping so that they could start making it asap for a 1-time project is never economical btw.
you can expect this cost to be reflected on top of the price of your 'custom' design.

those that can do customs, will ask you to contact them directly.
some that don't do customs, will just continue to sell their own designs exclusively

What is the price range?

when luxury brand goods are actually handmade and handstitched, you can expect the same quirks like high skilled custom handmade goods.
they would probably use thicker threads like those seen in handmade goods to showcase their stitchwork

since when the common LV wallets are handstitched?
machine stitch sure straight, but still need some skill lol

looking brand new for a long time has to do with the choice of material.
artisans and people who choose those custom pieces typically have a preference for veggie tanned leathers that look rustic and shows character with use.

chrome-tanned leathers look like new for much much longer.
artificially applied textures (eg prada saffiano wallets) on leather surfaces help to hide inherent material flaws and future damage too especially with some clear coat of sorts.

flawless 'full grain leather' would not need such extra treatments to hide flaws and refinishing like 'top grain'.
stamping artificial textures on them is like a waste, almost blasphemous

my 1 ringgit haha

Just to clarify, the LV example is just a brand example and if they are handmade because of its brand and price people expect it to be perfect however for custom brand with reasonable price people expect good workmanship but slight variation won't make people want to return them.

Actually to some degree luxury product are handmade too at some stages but they possess good machinery to make their life easier compared to normal artisan. "Higher end" artisan also do use machines (corter for example) for certain process which is very hard to get it accurate with just hands and eyes but maybe their machines not as large scale as those luxury brands.

And both stitch require experience to make it straight. Hand stitch is not about how difficult it is but just more time consuming.

And about "flawless" I'm referring to after usage and I do know different leather/treatment give different patina over different time but most people expect more from luxury brand compared to custom. Even the best leather get scratch and damage over time but if it is custom made most people will associate this with "character over time" while if it is high end brands people will associate it with poor quality/durability.

End of the day, I won't judge luxury brand as inferior compared to custom brand or which is more "worth" for priced paid.

If you are judging both base on per dollar value. Everyone know getting custom you will get most value out of it but we know people who buy luxury brands are paying premium for the name.

Quality and built wise, both are almost equal be it custom or luxury brand.

Its just like computers. You can choose to buy a fly-off-the-rack computer... or make a trip down to Sim Lim Square to DIY one...
both has pros and cons. mainly down to individual preferences.

Branded wallets usually offer classic range and seasonal range. While custom-made wallets doesn't, because you determine what is right and what is wrong.

The major difference between these imo, is Ownership. For Mass produced luxury wallets, there is always a chance to see someone else carrying the exact same brand, exact same design, exact same colours, exact same model in public...

But the chances for custom-made is too slim.

Both luxury brands and smaller scale custom-made goods are really equally as good. Inherently, they are pretty much strive to give finely crafted goods to customer.

The only gripe is pretty much how much 'limelight' is given to local craftsmen. There should be more :D

Yup if one is truly looking for something different and appreciate more handmade process he/she should avoid mass produced custom but instead look for individual small leather artisan. Take out your papers start drawing some blue print and show it to them and discuss further ! This way you know you created something uniquely yours.

limelight depends a lot on their pricing

word of 'mouth' through eg instag or a simple FB page works wonders.
the hipster and yuppie crowd these days embrace crafted goods more than before.

those that want to price themselves out when they are not even there yet(when compared to those foreign counterparts), well good luck to them.
plain belt price is a good gauge if they are in lalaland

Can anyone recommend on which wallet should I buy?

1) PRADA Saffiano Cobalto ( 8 Card slot )

or

2) Bottega Veneta Signal Blue Intrecciato Vn Wallet

I usually hold my wallet on hand.
