bro I totally get where you're coming from, cos you've ascended horology's evolutionary ladder. those who haven't yet won't get what you're trying to share. cos once you reach a certain level of "the chase", readily available stuff is like less kick liao.

scarcity drives desirability!

the chase is the fun part.
when you get it, damn song.

modern patek also hard to get. you see iceflight boss also need to find them, available then chiong down.

readily available can scratch the itch but if you find the chase fun (with little details that can change the price of the piece entirely) then its a different ball game already.

i am not there yet la, just read and find it fun to see there's so many differences on a time piece from different manufacturing date.

you see modern rolex sub, a classy staple in every watch collection (no offence to all sub owners, its a beautiful crafted timepiece, i owned one for 2weeks).
but what if you can own a sub, the same sub but yet entirely different?
if that's what you want, vintage sub is the way to go or even reading up about it can be fun.

i don't mean just rolex vintage, anything vintage, seiko, omega, longines, squale and for the bigger players, patek etc.

wore my rolex 1680 into rolex boutique, wanna see if the ceramic daytona is in, give it a test drive (not as if i can afford or pay the premium for it), unfortunately its not available yet.
so the i was about to leave, the SA asked if i am wearing the blackbay, i said no, its a sub, he say really? and i showed him. he asked wow, your dad or grandfather passed down? i said i wish but unfortunately no, have to buy it myself. he say very nice and never seen it in flesh before.

its nice that someone can recognise a good old watch.

bro, if you really, REALLY love the tag, just buy what makes you happy.


do be aware that tag aquaracer watches have lower resale value compare with the tudor black bays. not that you'll want to sell it, but to quote a watch dealer in from watch tv documentary, "your watch is worth what you can go out and sell it for".

you know you are in the right thread when people advise you to go for in house mvt instead of swiss. been hearing no swiss watch no talk lately which is so edmw lol

in house 8L35 over ETA2824 anytime ??

in-house movement ties you down to the manufacturer. meaning lesser options, higher servicing fees, longer turn-around times for servicing.

ETA workhorses like 2824-2 and especially the 2892-A2 that powers my omega 2254.50 are proven movements, especially the chronometer grade ones.

competent watchmakers the world over are familiar with them and parts are readily available, make servicing less costly.

I could be wrong, but the grand Seiko 8L35 is likely to cost more and takes longer to service than an ETA movement.
