Today's evening topic:

What do you think of limited edition watches? Hype or real value in due time?

Some examples:

My Hublot Chelsea Classic Fusion. 200 pieces worldwide. Limited edition box and signed Chelsea jersey. Serial Number on the back

Jaeger-LeCoultre SG50 Reverso. Limited to 50 pieces with no edition number present on the caseback.

What are your views?

Hype. Value is subjective to the market.

Co-brand LE is very subject. You may find real value if you can find someone who appreciates it.

Personally, I prefer Jean Richard's Arsenal LE watches.

Same as always, value differs from person to person. Even the cheapest and least limited edition Casio watch can be worth millions if it's from a loved one and has sentimental value.

Limited edition also depends on whether chio, I feel. If limited and ugly (i.e. don't have anything special, common, mundane) the demand also limited lol.

This is classic marketing studies in the making: co-branding, brand equity, brand perception, behavioral marketing.

Chelsea and Hublot do go well together imho.. but not in a good way for me lol.

Sometimes it works, sometimes instead of the "stronger" brand lifting the "weaker" brand, the reverse happens.

Limited editions must come across genuine. Every APROO limited edition? Omega speedmasters?

I think most LE watch with just cosmetic differences will not be value. Only special material or unique complications. Like steel patek for eg.

Many thanks to Cortina watches for the warm invitation. Made new acquaintances and met old ones as well. Great party.

this is one limited edition i would really like to have

Back in 2005 it was SG40. We were offered one of them but couldnt bear to buy it as we were getting married and doing renovations.

2 in Pt, 10 in gold and 28 in steel. Exactly 40 pieces. If u know what the crossed sabers at the 6 o clock position represent then you'd be more impressed. IMHO this is the pinnacle of an SG commemorative watch. The others please sit down. Period.

It was really thru fate at a watch event (urwerk, Mb&F dinner in 2015) that I met the brain behind this watch - Kelvin from THG. It was like meeting your idol in real. Exactly 10yrs after we missed the watch. Life sure is a strange thing.

If anybody knows where I can land my hands on one, be it Gold or Steel (Pt is placed in some museum or what), pls pls pls let me know. It's like a grail watch for us.
