he is one of those who needs to be spoondfed...

he will post a question, and come in few days later..if the first page doesnt have the answer he wants, he wont go to second page..

he'll just post again, until he comes in and just nice his answer is on first page...

seriously dude, as i said previously, some questions is easier to ask here, i agree...
but some basic ones, its easier to just google them yourself...

reminds us of a certain seannie who finally bought a respectable tudor heritage black bay rose logo edition with black bezel and red triangle also after asking TONS of questions and also exhausting patience cos folks thought he was trollng... ;)

Bro, I always respect JLC! Only thing is my pocket don't respect it, out of my control liao=:p
slowly bro. One day

I know you are a fan of reverso..but sorry lah bro, to me tak cantik lah...
you need to put it own your wrist

I really like jlc. Unfortunately, I think the designs look too refined for daily use. Feel wasted to have it left frequently in watch box.:(
wear daily bro. Like me or Don Draper

nLghUrTl.jpg

JLC just released the bracelet version of the geophysic true second. I have decided that this will be my next hoot!

Sent from Samsung SM-G930F using GAGT
this would look beautiful on you

how not to? JLC is the watchmaker's watchmaker! :D

ATMOS! ATMOS! ATMOS! :s12:

Reverso! Reverso! Reverso! :s12:
I rather wear a Reverso than a Tank or Gondolo. But that's me

Hi guys, newbie here much to learn from you guys.

As a first time buyer of luxury watches, i am currently looking at Omega/Rolex watches. Have a budget of $5k - 6k what would you guys recommend?

Also what shop do you guys usually go to, to get your watches?

Thanks!

imho, for newbies (we all start from somewhere, don't we? i'm still a n00b :():

- read, research, read, research AND READ, RESEARCH SOME MORE.
- expand your knowledge from quality watch forums (eg. watchuseek) and watch blogs.
- lrntogoogle.

if you're without watch nerd buddies and truly on your own, i would suggest you bite the bullet, pay that premium and buy brand new from authorised dealer (AD) just for the added assurance that you won't get carroted. you can still go the pre-owned route if you feel better equipped with knowledge you gained (be patient). try to buy with box+papers+cards if possible (of course that'll cost more lah).

final thoughts: are you getting a luxury watch as
1. a serious hobby (but without deep, DEEP pockets)?, or
2. as a reward for yourself for your milestone in life, promotion, having slogged like a dog and saved like a jew (but you don't intend to be ensnared in the potentially expensive hobby)? or
3. a need to project the proper image?

if it's 1 (like me), you can take your time and score value buys from seiko, orient and citizen to satiate your lust and enjoy good watches in general and start building from there.

if you're 2 (like most non-watch crazy folks), double to triple your budget, go big or go home. IOW, troop into any rolex AD with $10-18k and walk out with either an explorer I (you'll get some change from $10k), a submariner / submariner with date for $10k+ or a 2-tone, half gold, black dial rolex sub or 2-tone, half gold rolex gmt IIc and be done with it.

thus, mission accomplished: you get a watch
- with high status symbol among the masses.
- that has very good resale value (you won't loose too much compared to other brands).
- has a 5 yr warranty if bought new from AD.
- that is actually mechanically good, well-designed and proven.

if you're 3, know your ecosystem. small gas bosses and people are everywhere. and will misconstrue what your luxury watch on wrist is signaling to them.

yours is a happy decision and i look forward to your participation in our thread. rmb to share pics when you finally get it. cheers and a grand 2017 ahead for all of us! :D

HUAT AH!!! :s12:

  1. unscrew crown
  2. turn time to 2210 - clockwise
  3. turn time to 0915 - anticlockwise
  4. turn time to 2115- clockwise
  5. turn time to 1010 - anti clock wise
  6. screw down crown
  7. unscrew crown again
  8. shake 3 times in left to right motion
  9. then shake 3 times in updown motion

then you'll hear a "ting"

1 "ting" ish 1 hour, total number of "ting" is total number of hours left in reserve

Kidding :o

Usually only watches with power reserve indicator can tell you how much power is left. example - this watch

If you'll doubtful of your watch power holding capability, google on how many turns of the crown is needed to fully wind your watch, wind it, set the time to a fixed whole hour and let it sit on your desk. check the time again when the watch come to a complete stop
.
Sounds like arcade game cheat code.

Normally if I want to find out how much power is left in my automatic watches I ask my mother..

Or is it depend on the quality of the build?
Like Rolex can last super much longer due to its fine build as compare to other?

Is true, tiagong if you get a satki watchmaker to build the watch, the power reserve will last past judgement day, even if 20 kaiju attack Earth, even if sea level rise to 800m.

有生意上門,老吳沒有理由拒絕。除非。。。他真的手頭上真的沒有該機械機芯部件,還是石英錶的某個機款。

最好的建議是拿着已經停走的錶,給老吳看一看,辨認一下機款,在決定是否可修。

Omega speed master pro.

Less than 5k for new, will be revered by watch noob and snob alike

Thank me later

bro AyuReady, in the interest of full disclosure, must remind him that the omega speedy pro moonwatch is:

- manual winding ONLY (not automatic),
- has NO hacking seconds.
- does NOT have water resistance like a diver
- has NO date

cos some people actually dislike winding watches (yeah :s22: ... i know, i know), OCD so need to set to the second, prefers to have a date, wants to be confident their watches can survive in the rain, shower or a swim.

cheers!
