Guys, just curious, what's the typical depreciation range for a regular Rolex sports (eg sub, gmt2... not referring to ceramic daytona), if you were to buy BNIB grey and sell 6mths later with reasonable scuffs?

My friends told me rollie might as well buy new coz lose very little even if flip in 6 mths. But I lost like 17% over 6 years (bought grey bnib), howcome they say until lugi afew % only.

1-2k. Spending on model.

@TeenTitan01, yes my Seiko SKX027 is stock, brand new old stock. I picked up this watch from a Carouseller yesterday. Watch belonged to an overseas AD. So no luck getting the 7S26 movement fixed if it conks out later in the year.

I sold my rolex explorer (Bought March 2016 BNIB from grey dealer) recently and loss about 20% , watch was almost one year old and had some scuffs that need to polished off.

Watch shops will only take in for 5K, managed to sell higher than that closer to 6k.
People on carousell offering 4.5k-5k >_>

For sports model seems like explorer is less "desirable" than subs/GMTs and loses more in value

Think subs hold their value the best especially BLNR.

it depends on timing. and also condition.

carousel low offers could be for older watches, watch only without b+p or watches that already have 2nd, 3rd or more owners.

bros here know i wanted an omega seamaster 2538.20 gmt great white for a while now. before i managed to finally get mine during CNY, i was also hunting for one.

as a buyer, i was frustrated by the dearth of a near mint full set at a competitive price. buying online in certain situations incur hefty courier charges and GST which makes the price unattractive.

as a seller, sometimes when you want to sell, there're no takers. if it's a fire sale and you're in a great hurry, you'll have to offer a steep discount to encash your watch. those who can wait may get a better price, especially if theirs is a full set.

it really depends who blink first and how long you are willing to / can afford to hold out.

for those who wish to lose as little as possible when they sell, buy only pieces/models/years that have already plateaued and very stable.

those who want the latest and the newest will have to cough up a premium which they may not recover.

bro lyrrom, i've always respected seiko as a true fully vertically integrated watch manufacturer right down to their own screws, hairsprings, lume, crystals, dials, cases, bracelets and of course, their reliable movements. seiko has more claim on the "true manufacture" label than most swiss brands. after all "swiss made" is merely 50% (now 60%) of the watch value originating in switzerland. many swiss brands outsourced parts and WIP to sweatshops outside switzerland.

any idea when will seiko FINALLY retire the 7s26 movement in the skx007/009 and migrate it to 4r36?

shouldn't the skx007/009 finally get the windable/hackable love that even lower seiko 5s are getting for years now?

also, can you share where the worldwide factories are located? where's the one in sg? is there a local seiko museum that we can visit like in japan?

there used to be "movt singapore" like decades ago printed on some seiko dials. i never see them now. what gives?

and J series seikos - are they really FULLY made-in-japan?

and where are the K models made in?

why the J series parallel import seikos commonly found in parallel importers feature alternate arabic day wheel and not other languages?

how come only local AD sets get the nicer roman numeral day wheels? WUS forums seem to think roman numeral day wheels are for asia only cos the yanks only get secondary day wheels, haha. true?

any way to source for roman numeral secondary day-wheel seikos OUTSIDE of local AD network?

are they any way we can get TRUE jdm made-in-japan models for the popular models in the skx/srp/sarb/etc range with the more authentic kanji 月，火，水，木， 金，土，日 secondary day wheels locally & affordably?

first up, congrats on scoring this unicorn - as in it's a rare bird! (just like the cream dial seiko alpinist). NOS some more! swee lah!

the 7s26 movement is so abundant that you don't worry about servicing and parts for many, many years to come!

i don't know if its the zeitgeist of the moment or because i've started noticing, but it seems that white dial watches are catching on: bro slow_mo white dial GS spring drive "grand urchin" diver, bro mpcdude's snow flake, bro nitriles's 216570 exp II polar, my omega smp gmt great white, and of course your unicorn skx027.

mind sharing how much you managed to get it for? did you get the full set with b+p? pm me if you prefer. thanks!

in case you missed out my earlier observation b/w my great white vs polar explorer 40mm:
- great white is 41mm vs polar 40mm
- great white is heaver and feel more substantial on wrist vs polar 40mm lighter & more delicate on wrist feel.
- great white's depth rating is 300m vs polar 100m
- great white's bracelet is slightly thicker to polar 40mm
- older polar 40mm has tritium dial, hollow end links and pin hole case
- great white's clasp is milled from solid s/steel vs polar 40mm stamped metal clasp.
- great white has a rotatable 24hr scale bezel, making it 3 timezone capable and more akin to gmt master II vs polar 40mm fixed bezel
- the great white is a rarer bird, though more affordable and i'm confident the value of this cult favourite will climb steadily and may even surge as interest rise and near mint full set supplies dwindle as the years roll by.
- BUT, even as much as i love my great white, i readily admit that the bolder blackened white gold outlines of the polar 40mm hour indices and hands make the polar 40mm dial more striking and "pops" more when placed side-by-side with the great white at a distance
- BUT, the wave dial of the great white is more interesting as you admire it up close.
- atm, polar 40mm cost more than the great white from $1k+ upwards, depending on year of manufacture/tritium vs superluminova dial/solid end links/case pin holes/watch only vs w/b+p.

i chose the great white cos l love the big triangle at 12 o'clock, dial hour markers that echo the mil-spec seamaster 300, wave dial, depth rating, 3 timezone capable GMT, better bracelet+clasp+diving extension (vs stamped metal oyster bracelet+clasp), and a companion piece to my black-dial omega smp 2254.50.

nevertheless, tony stark's remark applies...

so if the opportunity permits... we'll see...

as always, bro yes1705, get a FULL SET with box, cards, extra links, hangtags if possible. it may cost a bit more, but is definitely more sought after with collectors and will definitely worth more later.

ps. the reason i chose polar 40mm to compare with the great white is because they're closer in vintage and price (although the polar 40mm could break out like what happened with gmt master II aluminum bezel).

there's of course the polar newer 42mm with its upgrades.
