OK guys, thanks very much for the many suggestions for the 21st birthday watch. Will have to consult with the CFO as well. Going by his hint for a Breitling, he's looking for one of those big dials with lots of functions (and likely with a huge price tag too). I have a JLC Master Control and a Zenith Pilot Big Date plus a couple of Orients (GMT and Sun/Moon) that will be his one day so he will be well taken care of!:)

Any suggestions for watches suitable for:
- 21st birthday
- male
- other watches he owns are a Samsung S3 Frontier, a Tissot dress watch (used, from me) and a casual Seiko 5 (used, from me)
- budget less than $2000
- maybe a rugged, manly looking watch (sports, pilot etc)?

Thanks!

Chiming in with the others that if you can stretch your budget, go for the Seiko MarineMaster 300.

If you absolutely have to stay within your budget, you might wish to check out Alpina. I just chanced upon the Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 Black today (online pics only, haven't seen the actual watch) and somehow it triggered me a bit: http://www.gnomonwatches.com/watches/alpina-watches/seastrong-diver-300-black-ref-al-525lbg4v6

you can't get more rugged than a diver, and a manly looking one that fits your budget is the chunky, thick & heavy orient pro saturation diver. your choice of black, white or red dial.

or the seiko PADI turtle for 1/4 of your budget.

Consider Oris(especially diver 65 blue dial) or take a look at Damasko as well.

Guys...any recommendations forba watch similar to this? But a lot cheaper....mayb in the range of 200. Besides bambino, wat other models r there?

Er, I think it'd be hard to find another dress watch in that price range that's of decent quality and gets some horological respect. I mean, the others that I can think of like Tissot Visodate are definitely more than $200, and when you get there, there's things like Orient Star, Seiko SARB that you can look at.

I guess another alternative model, but not different brand = Orient Symphony.

There's also Seiko 5s, and Rodina/Rider (which basically uses Sea Gull movements, which are decent).. The latter are clear homages of the NOMOS and fit into your budget. Rider has a Miyota option which is decently priced, but also more than $200. That said, not too sure about their brand name, lol. Also Tisell, but they're perpetually OOS.

Of course, if you don't care and the focus is the design, DW is always there..
