ok, random question.

let's say you strike toto big time, you're looking to buy your 1 dream watch locally.

would you

1) go to actual boutique (usually no discount), for full boutique experience (champagne and other stuff)
2) go to a AD (slight discount), for some sort of experience (maybe champagne?)
3) go to a grey dealer and maximise the discounts you can get (at the same time using the savings to maybe have a good meal or whatever).

don't talk about creating relationships because all 3 does the same thing.

share your thoughts.

Been very practical and based only on the above 3 options, I will go with option 3.

I win 4D or with casino winning, I always go with the cheaper alternative.

But the temptations of options 1 & 2 is always there as I experience it.

No.3 for me. Cos I don't drink, don't care much about the experience (since no r'ship creation, and they just want your monies). I'd rather use the savings for a good celebratory meal after the grail watch hoot, and then some.

Excellent choice. Good to know.
Waiting for more inputs.

If really tio big time, depending on the watch and availability, I would seriously consider flying to Europe to buy and have a holiday as well at the same time.
So, in a way, it's one or two. But if locally, just go for option 3.

Thinking of copping this in Japan
¥260,000 but need to use VISA which would incur 3.25%. Est will be around SGD3.2k + $100 VISA fees. If I am not wrong sg is around SGD3.4k+?

Any idea if I can claim tax refund for this from airport? This is from Bic Camera in Japan.

i thought bic camera use visa will have 5% discount instead of extra fees?
i hoot GS from yodobashi they give discount, plus visa discount.
but be very sure before you pay. once pay, its a nightmare to do any sort of payment adjustments/refund/change item.

Ideal situation: go to an AD satkily and purchase my holy grail.

Reality: choice 3 and spend the excess on something else (a daily beater or another watch for my other half)

I would go for the first, not for the champagne or building relationship, but rather, the service provided.

Like if tomorrow, I walk into Patek Philippe and they just nice got the Aquanaut (if can strike TOTO, means luck on your side :s13:), I would want it to be sized right. Also, coming from a customer service background, I really appreciate service and if the opportunity cost ('savings') helps the company or brand, then so be it.

Cash refund.

Wow, that was really heng imho.

mine was a nightmare.

i bought a watch with a wrong luggage, wanted a refund, they give me tons of excuses.
cannot refund, can only exchange.
then when can exchange, they say bank got charge refund fee. (they cannot void the sales like in SG).

then when I said, since you gotta refund me already, i pay the bank charges, i don't want exchange anymore, i just want the watch only

then they add new clause say must charge my card again before refunding (because i bought a watch with the luggage). I refused as I didn't trust them anymore after they gave me so many excuses.

Their excuse for charging again before refund was, on paper the account will become negative if they refund before charging again, as they paid upfront on paper for the item while pending funds from visa

then after wasting 30mins, I gave up and did an exchange for the luggage instead with some paperwork.

i really appreciate SG flexibility after that :s13:
