Not sure if I can fully trust them. They may say it needs servicing just because they want my business. I also think it needs servicing as it has not been serviced before and the watch was from 2003. Although when I wore it to check ytd, the power reserve was fine. Accuracy was -8s/day. Don't know if that is cause to be concern.

put on a timegrapher and see how is the watch running before deciding whether to service?

I know k2 does that before taking in the watch

DD too loud liao! Or maybe I not there yet.
Actually my choice of end game watch also balances the practicality and ease of servicing.

I often need the date feature to sign documents, but dun require day/chronograph/gmt. I got a rude shock years back on the gmt2c service cost becoz the barrel worn out - I barely worn the watch. Now no more liao. Simple date feature less things to spoil cheaper to maintain till I pass the watch to my kid...

My humble recommendation :
1)Seiko GS quartz
2)Longinees VHP
3)Citizen Eco Drive with Perpetual calender
4)Breitling
5)Certina DS series

This is why I am in a conundrum right now. Want to service my Speedy but do not want to send it to Omega as its pricey and they will change my Speedy back to the original 3570 look. Also scared of sending it to an independent watchmaker for fear that he will break the hands and I will have to source for new hands.

My last suggestion for you... go k2 get him to do a quick check... if he suggests that it gets serviced, ask him change the dial for you and you send it back to omega... there's no cheap and good option in this dude...

and there's always risk involved in any old/modded watch you purchase...
you want peace of mind, send it back to omega and pay the money...
you want reasonable peace of mind, send it to reputable shops like JW or K2 or chinatown...
if you can't stomach the above, skip vintage/modded watches is my 2cents.

I am surprised. If he could swap out the speedy hands and act blur, nothing stopping him from swapping other parts. Imagine bringing a milsub 5517 there...
Lol I doubt you will bring a milsub there

Don't service. Save your money.
Too many fears.

Jw servicing is gonna cost a bomb + waiting time is about 6 months.
My 861 never been serviced before.
So far so good.

2003 only. My 1680 since 1977/8. Haven't service before.
Nothing wrong with it so I am good.
If there's nothing wrong. Don't fix it.

Can try png watch dealers. Last heard full servicing cost about 700 if there no parts needed to be changed.
Friend serviced his Cal 321 there.

this is unacceptable! how can the barrel be worn out when it's hardly worn?! so much for rolex's vaunted bulletproof reliability. they should replace it for you f.o.c. :(

Alright man. Think I'm just gonna send to K2 to regulate. He should be able to do it on the spot right?

U seem very confident that your 1680 is all original and un-serviced for the past 39/40 years. If u don't mind, can share your watch source? Did u manage to get this watch from the original owner?

Thanks for the suggestion! Gonna bring it to K2 just to regulate it. And maybe ask for his opinions as well :)

Yes. Very confident. All original went to verify it as well. And there's no service records.
But it's definitely not cosc specs anymore of course.
Original owner? Are you kidding? It's gonna cost alot more.
Got it from someone that I know. Not a seller.
Fellow collector that knows his stuff alot more than me.
Got another guy who knows to check together.
All legit. Plus these people are very anal about being original.
