niCe hoot bro! it is currently out of stock, so you must be one of the lucky buyers! enjoy it!

Good day bros.. didn't expect to garner so much attention and sorry for the wait. Pls pardon me for the lengthy post.

A lot of senior bros here know that my first luxury watch I bought in 2014 was the 2010 edition Rolex Explorer 1. Since selling it, a lot of bros have asked that I buy back the same watch again due to sentimental value.

When I felt ready to own another Rolex, I went and tried the 2016 explorer 1. It looked good, however at that moment my heart felt that something was missing. I hesitated and held back, went home and thought through what was wrong this time round when I tried the Explorer.

Not wanting to give up, I went to another AD and tried the Explorer again. Despite looking good on the wrist, the void in my heart just will not go away and somehow I find myself unable to pull the trigger. Sadly it seems i lost that love for the Explorer. It is still a great looking watch but something just did not add up. Then I tried another Rolex. Once on my wrist, Immediately I rekindled that sense of excitement and that 一见钟情 kind of feel. I fell in love with it immediately.

I went home to calm myself. Somehow I just cannot get that Rolex off my mind. I asked around, getting feedback from friends/colleagues. After some positive feedbacks, I decided finally that this was the model that I want this time.

After asking/searching high and low through various ADs, finally one piece was allocated to me. Some may like it, some may not. For me, I liked the way that it is unique and stands apart from the rest of the Rolex models. Colour was bold yet attracting to me.

I did try on the much favoured Submariner ND, it looked good too. However thinking that I had the Tudor BB Noir which looked similar, I opted to go for the former.

And hence, introducing my new mate : The Air King 2016.

Agree with most of the things you said. Work hard and reward yourself with what you like. But no need to change friend la. Not everyone into the same things and its perfectly fine :)

I got friends who spend pp money on mobile games and they not even rich :s13:

Ok. that was a bit harsh from me.

But i was asked before why i wear a Patek when my boss doesn't

Does the Patek suit my socioeconomic level? Seriously, who cares? If everyone thought like that we should just wear Timex on our wrists. Justifying a TAG or Cartier vs a Rolex vs a PP bears no difference

Nice watches, cars, women (sorry for being sexist) is not confined to he upper class solely due to their price - if we plebeians can afford and justify the purchase (even if it is your annual salary) - we should be entitled to enjoy it as much as the manager i am working under (even if he wears a Casio).

Again i must stress, if you have bad credit risk and will borrow money to buy this - then you shouldn't But if you saved all your life for it and you have set aside funds...buy away.

If your friends can't appreciate that - find new friends

here's a good side-by-side comparison video b/w the rolex explorer (2016) vs the rolex air king (2016): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJBlBsskxgg

as an older phuck, i always associate air kings (and oysterdates) as the smaller, more elegant, more affordable, entry level rolexes at 34mm diameter.

now, not only is the 2016 air king BIGGER than the datejust and explorer, its dial is just... er... hmmm... :s22: a tad franken and chimera to me! rolex should use another name for it... and preserve the fond memory of the more elegant air kings instead.

but hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if you find enjoyment in it, i'm happy for you.

as a lume hound, I definitely lean towards the explorer (2016). it fixes lots of flaws of the previous explorer 39mm:

- short, skinny hands recycled from explorer 36mm that's out of proportion with the 39mm case size,
- minute and second hands not reaching into the minute chapter ring,
- white gold applied indices at the 3, 6 and 9 hour indices.

i simply CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND white gold applied indices in a sports watch. it make it hard to read under certain harsh lighting conditions. filling in all hour makers (in this case, the 3, 6, 9) with chromalight lume should've been done for a sports watch in the first place.

some, like me, may find the black dial on the explorer boring at times.

there's hope, folks!

the dome bezel rolex oyster perpetual 116000 with blue sunburst dial has lumed filled 3, 6 and 9 hour markers. Instead of the lumed triangle of the explorer, it has the white gold rolex crown at the 12 o'clock position.

however, it's only at 36mm case size - which is still eminently wearable for asian wrists. it's easily $2k less than the explorer - and comes with a more beautiful, interesting blue sunburst dial to boot. the only drawback is that the OP clasp is rather basic and lacks finer adjustments of the rolex sports watches.

Why the JLC last? Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre à Chronographe? :D

My belief is as long as you can afford it and don't end up in debt or do illegal stuff, go ahead and enjoy your nice things!

I'm gonna get a PP for myself as a christmas present this year and then an AP next year. Then in 2020 I'm gonna finish off my collection with a JLC.

The 2016 Airking has its fan and its detractors. No surprise a few bros here are not a fan.

However this piece hard to comeby as easily OOS and stock come also very little. ADs are saying the AK is more enquired than the explorer. That is also why i pick it, it is not as common as a Sub or GMTii. :o

If your friends can't appreciate that - find new friends

when we earned our money honestly & legitimately, we've every right to spend it on our healthy hobbies so long as it doesn't harm us or others in the process.

the watch hobby is definitely better than addictions like gambling, drugs, hookers, alcohol, etc.

why give way to jealous, small gas ass-wipes who only interpret a nice watch on wrist as showing off? even if they can afford, they simply cannot appreciate beyond it as a status symbol to broadcast their wealth.

objectively speaking, it costs way more to maintain a car in expensive sg than an average nice watch.

moreover, we've only one life to live. and we definitely can't bring it with us when you check out of this existence. since yolo, enjoy within healthy limits while we can. :)

no la i dont meant anything harmful with my reply :D

as always it falls back to the tagline, we wear watches for our self, not for others :o we are the one looking at the time, not others :s34:

don't watch lovers/fans/nerds/connoisseurs/wis/nuts/geeks/etc, find it easier to make friends with strangers who also happen to be wearing nice* watches? common passion mah! :D

*nice watches need not necessarily be ott, expensive, luxury pieces. it could be that affordable seiko/orient/citizen (instead of a fashion watch), or a hot cult watch that's steadily rising in stature and value (omega 2254.50 yeah baby!), the rare-under-the-radar-that-only-watch-fans-know, exemplers of iconic watches, etc

Only know it's being retailed there.

If you need junghan, I can hook you up. I know the boss of wow2 and nanking watches.

I wanted an Overseas but I tried it and it doesn't look nice on my wrist :(

bro Sensible_, must buy what makes you happy mah. trinity of watch brands is like hk so-called 4 heavenly kings (pardon the past used-by date metaphor, cos uncle here is old phuck like those 4 old phucks except i'm poor and they're loaded) - it's a marketing gimmick.

anyway, you may like the dress watch range from one brand, but prefer the sports watch range from another.

some brands that are more established in the dress watch range:
- vacheron constantine (patrimony!)
- patek philippe (ok lah, they're know for also well-known their sports nautilus/aquanaut)
- a lange & sohne (give them enough time and they will dethrone PP)
- jaeger le coultre (the watchmakers' watchmaker!)
- piaget (you want thin? you got thin!)
- seiko (those who can't appreciate grand/king seikos are neanderthals!)
- etc

some more established in the sports watch range:
- audemars piguet (RO, ROO!)
- rolex (need we say more?)
- blancpain (50 fathoms/bathyscape)
- omega (seamaster/speedmaster baby!)
- tag (for the young punks to get their foot in the door of fine horology.)
- seiko (the skx007/009 are what many serious watch collectors start off with!)
- etc

eh, gonna make a cheeky remark, so please don't be offended, bro!

so, like... do you identify with bro pwillie sentiments who said his limited edition seiko marinemaster 300 in aqua blue dial and gold accents is "so ugly, i had to have it"

easily oos could mean they know demand is low therefore keep low stocks?

maybe i could be missing something here. or i'm not adventurous enough.

or maybe you're with the school of collecting that values limited supply and thus the sought after "exclusivity". hey i can dig that. oop watches like my omega 2254.50 fits that description well - i'm chuff to wear a well-regarded popular cult watch that's not that easily obtainable. :D
