other things being equal, imho, b+p - ALWAYS! :D cos they'd ALWAYS command better prices and are readily snapped up.

A series if you're:
- into more vintage tritium dial (but remember that it has a limited lifespan and will stop glowing; in return you get a nice, even cream patina when it ages - IF you're lucky)
- into lug holes case for that old skool vibes and ease of popping off the bracelet (if you're a strap *****)
- don't mind folded end links (where you get to enjoy the "rolex rattle").

Z series if you:
- are into the 3186 movement with parachrome hairspring (do note NOT all Z series have them. mine don't. but the 3185 has been around long enough to be a proven, reliable movement powering the explorer II and GMT master II for decades)
- hate lug holes
- love solid end links

or if you're like me who like BOTH lug holes case AND SELs - and prefer the practical functionality of superluminova lume, then ONLY the P, K or Y series will do. :D

as for condition, let me put it in perspective for you: sought after, beaten up vintage rolex sports model fetch higher prices with full provenance (ie. b+p). as an eg, just check out current market value of the 1655 explorer II.

a shiny, new 1655 with fresh hands, a fresh bezel, a new service dial, a new service crystal and polishing at rolex service centre WITHOUT b+p fetches MUCH LESS than an unpolished full set WITH b+p 1655 that's a little bit grimy, a little bit dirty, BUT untouched. being all original IS THE KEY.

unless yours is a safe queen (ie. you bought your polar exp II brand spanking new at the AD and threw it immediately into your safe with all stickers intact), it's unlikely to be in pristine condition when you actually get to wear & enjoy your watch.

when your polar explorer II reaches vintage status in 20 yrs time, it should age accordingly to reflect its status. being beaten up may even add to its charm and value. so when buying pre-owned, unless the watch looks like it's been obviously abused, with gritty winding crown action, the key condition is that the movement must remain buttery smooth in tip-top condition.

U guys think the 1k top up worth it? Not intending to pass down and prolly will trade for nicer models in future. Hence wondering for secondary market those diff do worth the additional 1k between the two

bro, no right nor wrong way. just your way that suits your style.

- some folks just buy to wear & enjoy. b+p means nothing to them cos they're not ocd collector like me. such folks will say: "you wear your b+p, meh?" well, a full kit is definitely more valuable & sought after in the long run. for them, verified authentic by rsc is good enough.

- some folks buy to wear, enjoy, then quickly flip for profit. these smart folks scour the internet for bargains and accumulate their profits, and before you know it, they earn their AP on their wrist. ;) they have evolved into de-facto dealers. some may feel it's too much hard work. but since they derive satisfaction and profit from such activities, i'd say power to them (i must learn from such gurus! :D).

- some folks have neither the time, energy nor inclination to dive into the mad, expensive hobby called "whorology". to them, they just want a status symbol on-wrist to announce that they are loaded. they don't know enough not to get ripped off buying pre-owned. in anycase, such people abhors 2nd hand, "hand me down". nothing but the "best", "brand spanking new" with kiss-arse service will do for them. it's the boutique/AD for them.

- some true watch enthusiasts wade into the history and minutiae of "whorology" and gamely bone up on watch knowledge as part of the enjoyment of their hobby. they embrace the vintage and the classic watches, and try to learn enough to enjoy and even dabble in them, while trying to stay up-to-date. vintage is a minefield strewn with frankens and outright fraud, though.

back to your dilemma:
- if i'm the seller, of course i'd say it's worth the $1k.
- if i'm the buyer, i'd consider how complete the kit is, it's condition, it's service history, if any, and how i feel about the watch appreciating in the future. for eg, 12+ yrs ago, the GMT Master II wasn't the hot stuff it is today. and there was a time before when they languished at their display cabinets.

since you seem to plan to offload it in the short to medium term, (and you don't appear to be a hardcore ocd b+p collector like me), perhaps you can consider the cost savings as more important. it would make it easier for you to unload later since you can sell low cos you bough low.

anyway, please let us know how you decide. :)

Dom - yatto dai kor has pretty good AD relationships.. so u should go for it!

On a separate note, have you considered JLC Reverso or Master collection, or similar dress watches? I do feel such genre would complement your style better.
