Hi all,

Wish to get a decent watch for my brother when he starts work in the civil service. May I ask for some recommendations which are decent, not overly flashy (for someone in govt service) and hold value?

Budget around 15k. Happier to spend less. Am thinking of the new omega as stated above! Can someone share the price and how to get it?

Thank you!
Tudor Pelagos.

Less noticeable than a Rolex, but a solid watch in itself.

hello!
Wondering if SARB/JDM owners can input!
Looking to try on the SARB033/35; would the seiko boutiques in vivo/jem have them? If not, apart from big time, where can I try them on?

一隻"好"錶需要到15千咩?要到15千的錶,不算是"好錶"了。。。这样的贵錶地位提升了,提升至"展示级"的錶款了!

Does Tudor hold its value well?

Yup I don't want it to be overly flashy / in-your-face type. What's a grail territory? Should I get a new watch or a vintage?

It's so difficult choosing a watch as a gift :(

Unless you get a gold or gaudy piece the likes of Hublot....its not easy to be flashy actually. People don't notice watches that much actually...unless they are into watches. When someone speaks of a watch he is targeting to get that is usually high in price, its called a grail.

Better stay off vintage....even those who frequent this thread dont know much about vintage, me included.:D

If you want to get a new watch, get from grey or from AD at good discount. When you have a piece in mind, ask in this thread....many will be able to guide/help you so you get a good price.

You do know that most watches don't hold value well? Rolex maybe if you hold long time can. But straight out of shop value drop until they raise prices. Exception is limited edition but only if it's a popular one. Else same.

You want your brother to wear but the watch has to hold value, jin pai tan. Need to scotchtape the whole watch, else moment got scratch Carouhellers will 50% discount lowball you.

Can't have your cake and eat it too...

Everyone knows what a Rolex looks like though. Sad fact of life.

why dont u ask your brother?
watch is pretty personal, even if you buy one that holds value well, he may not like it

anyway holding value well means you are just looking at rolex. period.

Give the 15k to your brother. He will be happier.

If he wants a watch he will get one he fancy with that money. If he doesn't want a watch you buy for him also wasted.

Worse still, if you bought something that he wouldn't want to wear.

As what others have mentioned, contrary to popular belief, most if not all brands of watches does not hold value well except for certain models or v limited ones. Its like the stock market, u nv know which one will suddenly rise in value or suddenly drop in value. Buy what sings to U and makes u smile when the watch is on your wrist.

If you are talking about tudor, a good resale value without losing too much would be the black bag bronze. U wont make money out of it but u wont loose too mucb if U sell a short while after u buy it.

It's never easy to a gift that someone really likes. Best if you sound him out and check on what he wants before you buy.

Watch is like jewelry, very personal. He prefers a chronograph, dress watch, diver, pilot, smart watch?!

A sports Rolex will be best for value retention. That being said, it will still be very unlikely that it appreaciates in value.

Nothing wrong with wearing a Rolex (not full gold) when you are working in the civil service. Rolex is a common brand and can be seen as an entry level luxury watch.
