I'm not disputing the liquidity of Rolex sports watches given I have owned a few in the past

My question - is that the reason why you are buying a luxury watch?

I said it's popular to the masses. That's why it's popular.
Doesn't apply to me.
Because I poor. Cannot afford patek like others do by strolling into patek ad and ask one for retail.

Not that I am bragging but I do own a couple of 4 digit seikos (not GS). That says alot about how I buy my watches.

. I think 5711 is ugly. I would rather pay for a travel time if that's even happening. Lol. Maybe in the next 30 years.

There's no alternative. They are different in their own class.

If I wanna buy a submariner because that's something I want.

No. It would be a waste of time. Because your heart wants the sub.
Simple as that.

Yes alternative is good but it's never what your heart wants.

Been there. Done that. Still goes around for something I truly want.
Maybe buy alr the want feeling gone. Flip and find something else.
That's how I approach this expensive hobby.
Or maybe I am just seeking the buying process or completing my goals.

從舊帖中找回我以前長篇大論的回應。。。給大家參考參考，研究研究是否在今天還是實用的。。。

老叻與其他大眾名牌一樣，不必靠“限量發行”，只要靠廣告來炒，製造假象，自然就有笨魚遊入漁翁的網了。

聰明的魚，不會被肥大，閃亮的假魚吸引的。這種魚最難吊的。

YOLO，HFTL- You Only Life One，Hoot Fast Talk Later，對於不同論壇的錶迷並不陌生。無論在本地還是外地，有些錶迷總是強調“一生只活一次，要玩要癲要瘋就該無後顧之憂，一次過下重本。” 的確，一人只有一條命，而且還是短暫的。。。就該盡興，得個“爽”的回報就可，哪管他那麼多的。。。
但是，往往不少消費者就是被這樣一種糊塗信念給騙去，最後得到的不是“爽”，而是“哀”。

我們的日子不是只往“爽”那裡去。而是靠“規劃”來怎麼達到“爽”的目標。
買到一隻好錶是多數人的目標，但是買得多貴卻是個人的選擇。
如果一個人的收入高，他大可砸下一疊鈔票買貴錶。這是個人能力。
但是同樣收入，沒有做好規劃家庭開銷，個人三餐，交通消費等等，而砸下那筆鈔票買貴錶，那是愚笨。只為那短暫頭上的光環去買貴錶？這筆帳是怎麼算得呀？

買錶，戴錶，集錶，賞錶都是玩錶之好（愛好，嗜好）的不階段與不同開銷的需要。

沒有買錶，何來戴錶。
像某位師兄那樣，一直問呀問呀問的為的是收集資訊好能做準備買只好錶，洗去之前那負面的烙印。這也不能怪，有些剛剛踏入這興趣的新族群也會有那麼樣的反應。

沒有戴錶，何來集錶。
有些消費群不求太多，一隻好錶夠跑世界了。但是並不是人人都一樣，有些就容易貪在日日求鮮了。那麼買了一隻之後，不會停留在舊點，他會一直買，一直買，直到集到不同錶款，不同主題。。。此時，手錶已經不再只是一種報時工具，而是服飾配件了。

沒有集錶，何來賞錶。
有些人集錶來當做服飾配件，有些則是買來純粹欣賞不戴。“賞”，其實有分的。“賞值”與“賞質”。當一隻錶被拿來“賞值”的時候，很少會拿來戴的，這隻錶已經是可以拿來賣了。當一隻錶被拿來“賞質”的時候，擁有者很難會放手的。旁觀者也就只有“欣賞”的份了。

玩錶之道？何來道？
玩錶也能領悟一些道理？這可新鮮咯。。。

錶。。。就是一隻錶嘛。。。不是電子的，就是機械的。不是平價亞洲產的，就是稍貴歐洲產的嘛，有什麼道理可言？電子與機械機芯的差別也就在於規律震動來驅動秒針，分針，後時針嘛。。。電子錶停了換粒電池就可，機械停了上簧就可嘛。。。電子不准沒得修，也不值得修。機械不准送去給師傅修，帶調整，不必丟。。。有什麼難理解的？有什麼道理的？
這就要多謝另一個論壇的錶友了。
以上提到的是一般錶友知道的基本知識，也是表面上看得見的狀況。
但是更深的是我們往往忽略的，價值 與 過程。

並不是人人買不起老叻，還是大眾名錶。
有些人是有規律的存錢，為的是買只名錶。最終買到了，就變成辛勞得來的“獎勵”，這種價值是他人很難理解的。就算每天戴在手上，也會覺得自豪。撞傷刮花已經不再是顧慮了。
有些人是有規律的存錢，買了那名錶之後卻不戴，就因為怕撞傷刮花而影響那錶的二手回收價值。這辛勞得來的，變成一種“期貨”了。
有些人不存錢，但是有節制也有規劃。雖然不是高薪一族，但是懂得如何控制，與觀察接下來的薪金是否能夠承受這分期付款買來的“獎勵”。
有些人不存錢，以為手上有張卡就萬事通。今天買得了一隻，下個月還可進另一隻。。。每隻分期付款低嘛。。。YOLO！這樣的想法是最愚笨的。。。總以為“明天會更好”，卻往往沒有準備“明天會更糟”的事情會發生。就拿一隻有名又老的潛水錶來比喻吧。。。我們或許能夠用現代的防水給背蓋下的老舊防水膠圈做對換，錶冠以下的防水膠圈也換新的，是否就意味能戴這舊表去潛水咧？YOLO嘛。。。再老也要去探險一下嘛。。。誰知一去就淹死啦！為什麼？因為我們只把焦點放在防水膠圈，卻沒有留意到殘舊的錶殼，錶鏡有漏水的隱憂。。。這也就只能怪在自信太高了。。。

Personally I think everyone is entitled to their own reason why they buy/wear a certain watch, so long as the purchase is through honest, legit means.

IMHO, I don't see "bragging rights" as a "wrong" reason to buy/wear luxury watches, by the very nature of luxury watches and what it honestly represents (as opposed to what their advertisements may represent).

Anyway, let's continue to enjoy the various watches shared here and the lively watch discussions! cheers!
