it's probably here to stay unless Rolex decides to do something about it but i doubt they can do anything about.

so if you want a rolex? buy preowned. if not get something else, JLC, AP, Tudor, Panerai, Omega. Alot of different stuff to play with.

But i cant afford the rest. JLC AP all expensive. Rooks like i can only keep playing Tudor for rest of my sad life. If tudor becomes more exoensive i think i can quit game and bring tudor into my coffin.

thanks for your lengthy explanation. I only got serious late last year and do not know the Rolex situation. It does sound similar to Hermes..

In the end, there is more to watch collecting than Rolex. Rolex makes great watches, but I decided not to play the AD games (or simply do not have the money to do so). Pre-own will be one of the options. In the meantime, can play with Sinn, Omega etc to pass time.

I don't think telling Rolex HQ will make any difference, I feel that limiting supply is also one of their strategies.

rolex limit stocks to AD also no use, haha later cannot hit sales target.

we don't know how rolex allocate stocks to ADs but we know AD basically control the market, even the grey dealers.

Regarding the discussion on inflated Rolex prices, Rolex is seen as a veblen good, the higher the price and harder to get the more desirable it is. Brings more bragging rights. Its the universally recognised status symbol. Quality, workmanship, design is a totally separate matter. Someone suggeated getting GS in place, sorry...for bragging rights prob only a Patek Nautilus or AP RO can replace...even then nothing speaks to the masses than Rolex. Rolex Sub /Dayton are really King here. Dont see this changing in years to come....

So indeed as everyone says dont be a sucker and pay. Even if you dont pay many will....hail King Rolex. Haha

Also, I bet Rolex values more the branding power this brings then making more money through releasing more Subs/Daytonas amd milking these models...

Haha, agreed. However, I couldn't get past the case shape (especially the side) of the Tudor Black Bay, it made the watch look too chunky.

An interesting story told by someone who had his Submariner for 37 years.
