The earth's magnetic field which can affect the movement because the parts inside are metal....

I read that watches (due to the presence of a lot of metal, parts, and metal spiral) will get magnetized over time easily.

Also since Steinhart is not everywhere (unlike brands like Seiko), I am worried if I run into issues with Steinhart say 6 years from now, I will have nowhere to go for service. (reliable service that maintains the DIVER 300m rating)

hence worried about the magnetized part

My gateway to Rolex watch. I got the Pepsi GMT which I wear sometimes still. Use a de-magnetiser (<$30) if it becomes magnetised.

I've been reading about it across different platforms and most people fine Steinhart to be really high in quality.

But I was wondering if I should save a bit more and get the OEM Seiko SPB143
$900 Rolex Homage vs $1450+ Seiko OEM SPB143

Remember one time, everybody who was anybody would carry a compact digital camera (Olympus, Nikon, Canon, Casio...) but when the smartphone camera got better, the compact camera industry died.

watch wearing is now a minority hobby

functionally, people have access to a very very very accurate clock 24/7
Your Smartphone syncs the time with telco's time in realtime

functionally, there's also quartz
and now, people are into Apple Watch for both times telling and its sports tracking features

I am a new watch enthusiast, but I know we are all a dying breed

Based on the link you provided above, the steinhart uses eta 2893. Should not be a problem for servicing in sg

If we're talking quality, I would probably say sub-par if you compare with Seiko. I had some dust and blemish on my Steinhart when it first arrived. Sending it back for service (within warranty period) wasn't too difficult and it was all paid for by Steinhart but the wait time was about a month.

Hope this helps to compare with getting a Seiko which has decent quality and ease of service locally.

but the DIVER 300m part, from my limited knowledge, not many people in SG can guarantee this after opening a watch up. Do you happen to know of service providers who do high-quality work and also keep the DIVER rating?

because there is so much online chatter complaining about Seiko (some watches the crown is misaligned).

I don't have stats or former data
but in my circle of friends (I have a healthy diversity of friends from various income groups),
most of them are into Apple Watch and/or bare essential cheap quartz watch

when I posted on Facebook about Seiko, I get comments like "just get an Apple Watch" and it makes me roll my eyes

Think you misread my post. I paid nothing for service. It took long maybe cause Germans take their own sweet time perhaps?

Just remember that nowadays, watches are worn as a clothing accessory and not really to tell the time. You wear a watch to complement your outfit - raise it to the next level... lol. It shows that you appreciate the artistry of that tiny 'machine' that you are wearing on your wrist. In a business setting, it contributes to your professional image.

If there is any one who derides watch wearing because "you can equally tell the time from your phone", you can only look on the person in pity. He/she does not know the true value and purpose of a watch in the modern context. But to each his own ...
