i went to the boutique to see, you are right the 39mm looks weird
for the 42mm the dimensions are bigger and thicker than a Seiko Samurai, which is considered a BIG watch for small wrist people, kinda a "no" for me. I realized seeing the watch in person is really very important

I might save up more and get a SPB143 instead, but tbh it exceeds my budget

You can consider a Squale, I prefer their proportions. A bit more pricey though.

Relatively resilient considering COVID-19 and zero tourists... A large part of the consumption in Singapore high end watch market are tourists from overseas (especially China) as they have more confidence in not being scammed.

Just remember that nowadays, watches are worn as a clothing accessory and not really to tell the time. You wear a watch to complement your outfit - raise it to the next level... lol. It shows that you appreciate the artistry of that tiny 'machine' that you are wearing on your wrist. In a business setting, it contributes to your professional image.

If there is any one who derides watch wearing because "you can equally tell the time from your phone", you can only look on the person in pity. He/she does not know the true value and purpose of a watch in the modern context. But to each his own ...

I won't deride anyone who says that they don't think a watch is useful.

It is really a personal choice....

After all, before I got into the hobby, I was one of them.

I saw this photo on Reddit and the community there unanimously picked out a lot of QC issues.
Can the Lao Jiaos here please circle issues that you can see in the watch so I can learn visually what to look out for??

Seikos tend to have many issues if you really want to zoom in, the chapter ring is the "slanted" ring that fills the space between the dial and the bezel.

The 12 o' clock marker on the bezel isn't centered with the round lume too, it seems the left side of the minute hand has either some lume outside of the cavity (or could be dust), etc etc.

That said, Seiko is a mass-production machine-made brand and isn't meant for this kind of macro scrutiny. It is a cheap watch to make mechanical watches accessible to the masses. I think few dealers might want to let you scrutinise and find a nice Seiko in that way.

are there dealers who will check for me?

when I used to play with DSLRs, certain camera dealers will do their own internal QC filtering when it comes to premium lenses,
do such dealers exist in the watch world?
