The clasp hook is secure, unlikely can be unhooked accidentally
Only some vendors with their so called MN-style straps do not have a close loop design which makes putting it on more difficult

what's there to brag? most (if not all) people here can afford a cheap vintage oysterdate.

I love rolex design. I'm just surprised how repulsive the brand is to me even if everything else appeals to me (the design, the history, vintage, etc.).

The connection of rolex with hao lian and uncle is just too much for me. perhaps i was brought up to despise the act of showing off and my dad has always relate rolex with showing off (kind of true).

Even though low key, I wouldn't want anyone to know I'm wearing a rolex. I much rather it be an expensive AP, Sohne or even credor. Just something very repulsive in a rolex.

Anyone else feels the same here?

Not me, I am very clear why I like my Submariner, and if I didn't like it enough I would have just sold it off. The same goes for all of the watches that I keep for a long time. I don't respect anyone less because they wear a simple Orient or Casio, I don't respect anyone more because they wear a Rolex, AP or PP. I like $300 watches about 90% as much as I like my Rolex, so if I had to sell it one day, life is sad, but I'll survive.

At the end of day, I like what I like, and I am not defined by a watch that I wear, even if 10,000 obnoxious people or nice people or zombies wear that same watch. Life is too short to be spending it looking at what everyone else is doing or what they think of my hobbies. This doesn't just apply to watches.

Also, obnoxious people are everywhere. If I like PP or IWC, I'll get it, despite the fact that this particular thread in HWZ proves that there are absolute dicks that are in love with those brands, or pretending to to get a rise out of others.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I'm not bothered by it. Neither should any bona fide watch lover.

To a certain extent I agree and understand how you feel. However, I would say that as per all brands, there are always "entry" level products, and the "heritage" products whereby it showcases the expertise and heritage of the brand. This applies to even brands like LV, Chanel and any other watch brands, whereby they have entry level bags/watches which is used by almost anyone and everyone. This I see it as a marketing tool for the brand as well, like LV having thousand dollar bags used by everyone, and there are the $100k bags that is never seen on the streets cause its so few and far between.

Watches are the same; you have the Sub that is wore and "shown off" by any and everyone, and then you have the Playtonas and Paul Newmans which showcases the brand's innovation and heritage.

There are obnoxious people everywhere, there are many things people show off; even belt, shoes, cars, etc... so to link a watch so many people own, obnoxious ones being a great minority, is far fetched though understandable.
I personally do not wear Rolex, personal taste. I don't think the design sits well on me. But I appreciate the watch, the quality, reliability, etc. It does so many things right and easily the most reliable when even compared to pp, ap, als, etc..
Let's appreciate mechanical watches as an art passed down for a few hundred years. The springs powering it, the gears working in tandem, coming together in the hands of the craftsman.

i find it tough to wear a watch that the brand itself makes me feel replusive.

i believe there's other brands that has a similar design as a oysterdate.

i think secretly, you might still feel a rolex is a rolex, the quality, the branding and everything about it, you love it. if not you won't spend money on it.
