Hi bros, my watch spoilt and I'm looking to replace it. I'm 28, working professional, looking for a watch that I can wear for a couple of years. Can give me some recommendations for a watch for a budget of 500-800?
I'll be in HK mid June, are watches cheaper there?

U can check on gnomon or red army watches. Should have some swiss made pieces that suit your budget. Or otherwise tissot visodate is a good buy also.

I had brought the watch down to the service centre.

When i was notified that the watch has been fixed and ready for collection, i could still see clearly that the chronograph hand moved. The staff did not acknowledge the defect. So, i tilted the watch to its right so that the hand was aligned back at 12 o'clock position, then tapped the left side of the watch onto my palm and showed it to the staff that the hand has moved and it was loose. The staff stated that the action of tapping caused the hand to be loosen.

Would like to know if tissot build and quality are so low that it is not able to take the impact of light tapping?

it was a CK, probably can find my complaint somewhere

the manager from switzerland told me that if i want accuracy, i should just go buy a cosc chrono omega or something
i mean, it IS true that if i expect better accuracy than a low end swiss quartz, i should go get something better, but i don't think that they should display their snobbery so openly

and whats more, after surfing and reading up more, cosc is nothing much, really.
a GS is much better in that aspect

but the manager from swatch was quite ok, don't know her name though

Erm, actually quartz is more accurate than mechanical watches whether manual or automatic. That is a fact. No?

There are plenty of brands that most people consider “high-end” that, while I respect, simply aren’t superlative in any way: IWC, Vacheron, Piaget, and Zenith all make nice watches, but they are meaningless.

Actually some of Watch Snob comments contradict himself. He commented on another thread that the Zenith movements are much more valuable and more sought after than the models with the in-house Rolex movement.

Well, if Rolex thinks that the Zenith El Primero are good enough to be put inside their Daytona, then it can't be that meaningless.

You should check out this Tissot Powermatic 80. It's with the newer ETA caliber C07.111 with an 80hrs power reserve. More than enough juice to last thru the weekend if you are not wearing it. There are 2 version, a chronometer and non-chronometer version. The white dial looks really nice.

Their Swatch SEA ceo and swatch swiss oredi bo chup customer service...
even the manager at the service ctr is acting so irresponsibly...

i believe their top management is behind this...
Reason could be that their operations and salary expenses are high....

you see them opening dedicated boutiques everywhere, and hiring staffs all around...
but actual fact is that not many people are buying watches in recent times

Before you buy a watch, look out for the service centre. If it sucks, please think twice.

It's a fact and I generally agreed with that sentence. Even the el cheapo Casio quartz have a spec of +/-30sec/month. The G-shock had a spec of +/-15sec/month. And there are the highly accurate thermo compensated SuperQuartz line with a spec of +/-10sec/Annum.

mine was slowing down by a minute in 3 days, thats why i bought it to service
then it went to 7 seconds a week
well within spec, according to them

oh well........

First auto / mechanical watch! was fully intending on buying the tissot heritage visodate but after seeing and trying it on, decided that I like the look of chunkier watches. Ended up going for PRC200 auto chrono instead

force your AD to send it in, once dey accept it, dun tink they will reject service.

or you go to overseas svc center, maybe KL?

or you try soft approaches, with the PR skills you have

or try for 1 day when vicky is not around
(most likely you were served by vicky wong, and you suay suay bump into her)

vicky might not be around on mondays

or get your gf or male friends act blur and send it in for you.
but they must know what is wrong.

but if vicky is around, maybe back to square one

if not, you go PERSONALLY to swatch HQ at comtech, alexandra terrace during office hours to speak to their tissot representative directly.

if fail, escalate to the highest ranked swatch boss present

anw, thats all i can think of.

last method is to offer to pay $$ and settle it. works in all case cos its universal language

Thanks for the advices. Initially, I have tot of approaching the Tissot representative at the Comtech but the case may be directed back to the service centre since it is a repair service that I need. But never try never know, probably the service centre will deal with my watch defect seriously after highlighting my case with the Tissot representative.

^ if all fails, post the watch for sale online, highlight the problem and sell it off.

Buy another watch.

Screwed up aftersales can subjectively mean a lifetime of headaches
