quick question, a sinn better or a ball better?
What counts as "better"? afaik, both companies make good watches. The one that you like more, at the price you're happy with, that's the better watch :)

That said, if it was me, I'd pick Sinn. Genuinely German compared to bought-over American heritage

While I do think some of their prices are on the slightly higher side and I would personally recommend HJ Watch or Watch Arena.

They have a pretty large range for you to choose from, price wise is reasonable but if you want to get from HJ, let me know

Thanks for recommendation...saw a piece at HJ, will decide when to go for it...will check with you in due course! :s12:

oh sinn have better history. cool.
well, this depends on how closely you believe that the current Ball Watch Co is related to the historical Ball Watch Co.

Sinn - Founded by pilot and flight instructor Helmut Sinn in 1961. In 1994, Helmut sold the company to Lothar Schmidt, who was involved with Porsche-Design, IWC, and the rebuilding of A. Lange & Söhne.

Ball - In 1891, Webb C. Ball was appointed railways Chief Time Inspector and established precision standards and a reliable timepiece inspection system for railroad chronometers. His original jewellery business in Cleveland grew into the Ball Watch Company. The firm was family owned by direct descendants until the 1990s when the right to use the name was sold (to Hong Kong-based investors, apparently).

What is a recommended watch for a $3k and a $5k budget respectively? Prefer a dressy watch, complications optional.. :)

Thanks in advance for the advice!

steady... what is the expected amt of discount frm them? :s13: thankew!

IWC is starting to follow in the path of Jaegar. Discounts are quite minimal now and I believe only the Portofino automatic is about 5k. The chronograph and hand wound 8 days costs a fair bit more.

I thought the Portofino Chrono looks really nice! Any chance of it falling within $5k after discount?

Confirm not possible. The RRP if I remember correctly, is about 8+K. You will need a discount of about 40% to drop it to 5K. IWC discount hovers around 15-20% tops now.
